Toub is not only way too thin for Iroh, but too young, and too ethnically distinct from the people playing his immediate family members. Basically they have an Indian playing Zuko, a Maori playing his father, and an Iranian playing his father's brother. That's one hell of a far-flung family.
And Aasif Mandvi as Zhao? The Daily Show comedian/correspondent? The pizza-shop guy who fired Peter Parker in Spider-Man 2? The guy with a voice so high-pitched he's practically an alto? This is supposed to be the archvillain of the film? What, are they reworking him as a bumbling comic villain? I don't know, maybe Mandvi is a versatile actor who can pull off a malevolent character like Zhao, and maybe he can drop his voice an octave or two. But at this point it just looks like another of the bizarrely wrong decisions that have been made about this film at every stage.
Nice to see another East Asian added to the cast, albeit in a minor role. It looks like they're settling on East Asian appearance for Earth Kingdom (since the actress rumored to be playing Suki, Jessica Andres, has kind of an Asian look), South Asian/Middle Eastern for Fire Nation (assuming the Maori Curtis can pass as Indian), Caucasian for Water Tribe and Air Nomads. At least there's some diversity, even if the specifics are wrong.
