Yes, in the last month or so it was announced that Roland Emmerich would be directing a film version of
Foundation, which does not exactly thrill me. He'll probably find some way of turning it into a disaster movie -- or a disaster of a movie.
Granted, it could have been worse (at least it's not Michael Bay or Brett Ratner), and if the film has a good screenwriter, it might actually turn out okay. But I'm still apprehensive about it. If this were the pre-
Godzilla Emmerich, I might be a bit skeptical about a getting a faithful adaptation, but I would probably anticipate a reasonably entertaining picture (I did like
Stargate and
Independence Day). However, none of his later movies had the same level of enjoyment, IMO (and some have been downright awful).
Bottom line: I'll probably go see it, but I'm not expecting much. Of course, if it's any good at all, that attitude could work in my favour, and I'll end up being pleasantly surprised. Well, here's hoping.
