Foundation film?

It only took me 41 years, but I finally started reading The Foundation Trilogy, by Isaac Asimov. Yes, I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

My question: What's the scuttlebutt of this becoming a film? ANybody know?

You too, huh? I read Prelude about ten years ago, and I'm finally getting around to the others.

As far as I know, the film is still in development hell.

I do data entry so I listen to a lot of audiobook while I type... I enjoyed all of the foundation audiobooks; even listened to them a couple of times each.

Thoroughly enjoyable...

Thre must be some sort of film in the works, as BBC7 (the British digital radio station with a regular Sci-fi slot) had to pull its rerun of a 1970s radio adaptation of the Foundation sequence because of a rights conflict.
That was about four years back, and if they could have run it any time since, they would.

I look forward to it almost as much as I do the possible Rendezvous With Rama movie. I hear Roland Emmerich is directing Foundation, though. That could be both good and bad - we'll see.

Yes, in the last month or so it was announced that Roland Emmerich would be directing a film version of Foundation, which does not exactly thrill me. He'll probably find some way of turning it into a disaster movie -- or a disaster of a movie.

Granted, it could have been worse (at least it's not Michael Bay or Brett Ratner), and if the film has a good screenwriter, it might actually turn out okay. But I'm still apprehensive about it. If this were the pre-Godzilla Emmerich, I might be a bit skeptical about a getting a faithful adaptation, but I would probably anticipate a reasonably entertaining picture (I did like Stargate and Independence Day). However, none of his later movies had the same level of enjoyment, IMO (and some have been downright awful).

Bottom line: I'll probably go see it, but I'm not expecting much. Of course, if it's any good at all, that attitude could work in my favour, and I'll end up being pleasantly surprised. Well, here's hoping.

I know many people say that a certain book shouldn't be made into a movie. This is one...but not because it so incredibly great ( it is very good) but the narrative style is not conducive to it. Thay may just be trying to cash in on the familiar name.
