The novel length stories and a less dry approach to characterization.

So you did not care for the novel length stories or preferred them? As for characterization...has he ever not had a dry approach to that?
I prefer the original books/stories. He made the attempt to "dig deeper" in the later books.
One of the Second Foundation trilogy writers (probably Brin) had what I thought was a great point:
we know that Gaia didn't become Galaxia, because otherwise why were they printing the Encylopedia Galactica in ~1000 FE for the epigraphs?
I had completely forgotten that he had appeared on the series before.

My favorite part was Dusk and Dawn watching the videos of the old ascensions. One of the things I like about the way this show is structured is that we keep cycling back to the same concepts, deepening them. When we first saw the ascension ceremony back in, what, the second or third episode, it seemed so solemn, so private. I wouldn't have expected them to be recorded outside of the memories of the five people participating, and Cleon 11 noticing something off about the baby seemed to be a massive change in the program. Now we see that it's not uncommon for the elder Cleon to try and escape; I wonder if that was always the case, or if that's something that only started when they became aware of the genetic variation.
(I do prefer to refer to the Cleons by number rather than role, but they haven't been specific about who the incumbents are, and we can't even estimate since this episode seems to confirm that ascensions don't occur on a fixed cycle, and this one is unusually early since the current Day is so checked out.)

Oh my God, I just realized, this thread is flared "News" and not "Spoilers"! We've been making a mockery of the rules for years!
Anywho, we get a conclusive-ish answer on whether Hari's new body was a robot (he's human, or, at least, ages like one), but it looks like we haven't seen the last of the more personable version of Seldon yet. Empire has a superweapon, exciting, probably not great for a fading, desperate polity lead by fading, desperate men to have ultimate destruction in the palm of their hand. It turns out that the cycles of the Cleons have been shortening because they're getting senile younger, explaining why Day doesn't look like Terrance Mann and Dawn doesn't look like Lee Pace yet. And, most shocking, Dawn is working with, and perhaps for, the Second Foundation. I wonder if the revolutionaries' plan from season one came to fruition after all, and the current Dawn is a ringer raised by the Foundation, and he replaced the original relatively recently.

Season 3's been fine so far, but I do really miss the guest cast of season 2. Constant, Poly, and Hober were really delightful.
I also miss Constant, Poly and Hober from season 2. But since season 3 is set centuries later, i guess we also get new characters to follow.
TBH, I am not feeling Euron The Mule Greyjoy as the new main threat in this season. He gives off space pirate vibes instead of being a civilizational threat.
TBH, If the tv show decides to base the mule directly from the books, i think that the musical instrument playing fellow that escapes in the ship might be the true mule and the interstellar ironborn is just a decoy.

Oh, that’s a very good point. And it would fit, with the public-face Mule being all loudly, theatrically evil to draw attention. (Thematically too: Music Guy creates holo-lightshow “illusions” with his music, which also affects people to not notice the famous influencer couple much. Foreshadowing?)
I was wondering about the finger signs (usually before the twirl bringing death and destruction) use by Cleon and whether it was developed behind the scenes or perhaps a suggestion by an actor (in the same way that Leonard Nimoy turned a Rabbinical blessing into the Vulcan salute).
Cleon's finger signs do have cultural and historical meanings with the number of fingers raised and the position of the thumb having different meanings.
The two fingers raised dates back to Greek/Roman eras but is still used to today by priests making a blessing which is the opposite to how Cleon uses it.

Oh they'll definitely use this twist from the books. I was just waiting for Gramatico to appear and when he did i knew they'd use the twist sooner or later.
Now i just wonder how long they will use this storyline, i.e. will it be done in just this season or carry over to the next, hoping the show is not cancelled ( all these huge CGI shots and elaborate sets must be expensive as hell).
I mean there's still tons of story to be done, the whole Gaia and Galaxia thing is still to be even touched upon as well as Demerzel's/Daneel Olivaws role in all of this.
