Formula One 2011

More sad news:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/14348303.stm

The Turkish Grand Prix is expected to be dropped from next year's Formula 1 calendar after teams were told it was no longer on the itinerary.

A schedule handed out by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone includes 20 races, rather than the 21 on the original list.

McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale said: "It is always sad when you lose a grand prix from the calendar. We are sorry to see Turkey go."

Turkey has hosted a race since 2005 but attendances have been poor.

Its future had been under scrutiny for a while now, but still, I'm sad to see Turkey go. It was one of Hermann Tilke's better-designed tracks, and certainly did its job of giving the drivers a hard time.

Well according to Whitmarsh, the meeting that the teams had with Bernie seems to indicate that the BBC will show 10 races live, and 10 races time delayed in full.

So as long as you switch the radio off, have your home page for the internet set to a non news displaying page, avoid IM' etc.. for a few yours you should be ok.

Still don't agree with the BBC that 6-7m viewers isn't a decent figure to warrant the cost per season. After all about the only things I watch on BBC are F1, DW, Torchwood, Top Gear, The Apprentice and maybe the News. My License fee should cover that, not interested in Soaps, the endless reality shows, make-up shows etc..

Not sure how they figure that having it on Sky will increase viewership, becuase if you were going to watch it you would have watched it live. And only 10 races will be shown in primetime, the question is will it be moved to BBC2

And don't go on facebook, where Red Bull especially don't grasp the idea of spoiler-cuts.

It's hard to see how they can keep up viewing figures for F1 when Sky doesn't have as many subscribers *in total* as BBC1 has F1 viewers...

On today's coverage they as much as said that it was down to "take this or you'll get no screening rights at all" - and Bernie fucked off PDQ when the presenters got near. Just scowled and stomped away without a word, the moneygrubbing little troll.

I still think this won't help Sky and will only hurt F1. However perhaps it will do them both good to see what people power actually means.

^I wouldn't hold your breath, as someone will be laughing all the way to the bank. After all lets see what the BBC

Practice Sessions (On the Red Button)
Race Live
Race Run (If early race)
45 minute race builkd up
30 min(ish) post race
60 min post race show (aka Forum)

Race shown in HD on BBC HD channels

Just what part of the weekend aren't the BBC showing that SKy can add to?

The viewing figures will go down. It's as simple as that. So who loses out? The viewers.

Grumble grumble bloody McLaren/Lewis tyre choice fuckup grumble TWICE! grumble happy for Jensen though grumble bloody grumble could have had a one-two arse rhubarb bloody grumble arse.

The problem is they'll only be showing half the weekends, which means some viewers will decide that, as they can't see the whole season, there's no point watching half of it.

^My point is, how can Sky improve on what is already shown by the BBC. As the BBC appears to cover everything.

After all the deal is supposed to improve upon the BBC coverage which appears to cover everything.

I've got a radical idea on how the BBC can save even more money, how about cutting back on an episode of say Eastenders every week.

3D's about the only thing they're trying to promote that the beeb don't do... Not that I'd call that an improvement.

Here's the official one on HMG's e-petition website. (The site gets busy very quickly, so be patient.)

If a petition gets over 100,000 signatures, then the issue is eligible for debate in Parliament.

Incidentally, my link to Ben Gallop's blog entry is now closed for comments, having had over 8400 replies.

Senna brings the sponsors, so he gets the ride. Even though Heidfeld is doing better than Petrov. Money talks!

Looking forward to this race - McLaren are usually good there on the fast sections, so I expect Red Bull to try and make it up in the middle sector. And no DRS through Au Rouge even during practice and qualifying due to safety concerns.

It 20 years ago, since 1 micheal schumacher suited up for his 1st grand prix at with with jordan grand prix, and we all know what he ended up doing, can he win this milestone?.

Well, looks like he's marked 20 years of F1 by crashing out of the first part of Qualifying.

Well another race, the same story. Vettel on poll with a McLaren hot on his wheels.

Though looks like Maldondo's been a bad boy. Wonder what penalty he will get if he is judged to have deliberatly driven into Lewis. A grid drop, a fine or exclusion from the race.

My thoughts exactly on Maldonaldo. It may well stem from the incident between them in Monaco, if indeed it was a deliberate move. The stewards will no doubt make a decision.

Also, fascinating to see a semi-topsy-turvy grid, with Button stuck in the middle of the pack, Alguersuari mixing it up (no pun intended) in the top 10, and Schumacher with no qualifying time.

Finally, I just want to say that it's somewhat heartwarming to see a man named Senna driving a black-and-gold, Renault-powered Formula 1 car once again. :)

And in the top 10 as well, Alonso is also down in 8th. But of course the question is how much can we discern from the grid. I.e. Are the cars set-up for a dry race, or a comprimised set up that covers the possibility of the race being variable conditions.

Though perhaps Maldonado wasn't happt that Lewis came up the inside at the last corner, where you would normally expect the racing line to be.

Though I wonder if Lewis hadn't got passed would Maldonado have suffered a grid penality for holding up another car?
