Formula One 2011

Kimi Raikkonen,
Left Turns Equal Right Move At GMP: Reporters and photographers were the first to open the gates at Gresham Motorsports Park this morning as they awaited the arrival of Kimi Raikkonen, former F1 Champion. Raikkonen arrived in America this past weekend to make his first test run at GMP today. He has signed with Kyle Busch Motorsports to run a limited schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series and will make his NCWTS debut at Charlotte on May 20, 2011.
The 2007 Formula One Champion is a native of Finland and currently drives in the World Rally Car Series since leaving Formula One in 2009. Raikkonen will be a familiar face to some of the NASCAR drivers including Juan Pablo Montoya and Nelson Piquet Jr., who were both former F1 drivers. "Gresham Motorsports Park is proud to have Raikkonen choose this track for his first-ever NASCAR test," said Gresham Motorsports Park's General Manager, Dan Elliott. "We know that Kimi will be successful no matter where he competes." Raikkonen plans to run a two-day closed test at GMP in preparation for his NCWTS debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway's Education Lottery 200 on May 20, 2011.(Gresham Motorsports Park)(4-4-2011)

At last! Why they don't show the Far East races on tape in the "F1" slot at 7:30am EST is beyond me. That's kind of been the traditional F1 in the US time since the old ESPN days of the early '90s.

They do rerun them at the normal time in the UK - but they also fucking announce the results beforehand!

In the US, SPEED's coverage is pretty good but their scheduling of reruns is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes they rerun on Sunday afternoon, sometimes they don't. That's why I think a 7:30 am rerun would be great, to be consistent with the live European races.

Well Red Bull have locked out the front row, for Turkey, but as they say you don't get any points for pole.

Good race, plenty of action. But Vettel's domination of the race made it a tad less exciting than it could have been.

Schumy is really starting to piss me off now. He threw that race away, there was no need to turn into Petrov at ALL.

Each week I am tuning in, expecting him to at least be edging towards competitiveness, and it is not happening. I just don't get it, here we have one of the most experienced and talented drivers in the whole sport, and he is racing like it is his first season.

Didn't Schumancher say in post race interviews he's not enjoying it anymore? If that is the case perhap it's time he retired (again). Though to be fair to him it seems as if the Mercedes is tieing for the 4th best car with Renault. So all things being euqal the best he can achieve is 7th.

Though Rosberg seems to manage with the car, Schumacher could possible be having problems adapting to the new tyres. As I doubt it's an issue with him being unable to overtake. But if he were to retire at the end of the year whom would you place him with. My vote would go with Di Resta, might be a rookie but he has done well in the first 3 races, and according to some reports was told to retire by the team in Turkey.

^ You are right he could probably only have come about 7th, but that is the position he was in before he squandered it in the first 5 minutes.

And yeah, Di Resta looks very promising. I think he will be a name to watch over the next 5 years.

I still think Schumacher shouldn't have come back. He just doesn't seem to be the same driver he was when he retired.

Just watching qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix now. Earlier, Twitter was abuzz with Nico Rosberg's crash in free practice at the Nouvelle Chicane, just avoiding the central barrier separating the track from the run-off area.

Now Sergio Perez (who made it to Q3!) has been involved in a big crash in the same place, this time unable to avoid that barrier. Just heard that he'll probably be OK.

Well, even though Q3 isn't finished, Vettel has the current fastest time, and everybody still to set one (including Hamilton) will be put off even if it's restarted, so that'll be a Vettel Pole and race-win (since there's no real chances of overtaking)

A restart itself has been questioned, as the safety barrier needs to be repaired to a race-worthy condition, but the workmen are doing their best. It seems they will be able to restart.

... and yes, they do restart. Only change in positions in the end is Lewis Hamilton gaining a time and starting 7th.

Nevertheless, it doesn't bode well for the race, though - it was the same place where Karl Wendlinger had his nasty crash in 1994. I have a nasty feeling about tomorrow's race.

Fucking stupid McLaren. Lewis should have got a banker lap in at the start of the 3rd session like the others did. There was no way he could get a good time after the restart. Leaving it late to save tyres - quite a roll of the dice. Dammit.
