Formula One 2011

In the past few years, I have found some of these new tracks that have been added to the calander rather uninspiring. Though this weekend we return to one of the classic circuits, Silverstone for the British GP, hard to think that's where the modern F1 championship began over 60 years ago. But of course this year we have a new pits and start finish line. Hopefully we will get a good race, wet or dry.

I agree. The newer tracks tend to be more technical, and have precious few overtaking spots. I prefer the older, simpler tracks that allow the drivers to damn well race each other.

Yes, a track needs to have a certain degree of technical challenge about it, but modern tracks go a little too far, IMO.

All of a sudden Silverstone is upon us again, almost out of nowhere. Maybe I'm used to seeing the French Grand Prix on the weekend before Britain, something of a routine for several years before the French GP was removed from the calendar.

And of course over the last few years the British Grand Prix has marked the half way point in the season. Lets hope this is where the other teams start to turn the corner and really challange Red Bull.

Wow, watching the jetskis? There would have been hell to pay if the BBC had done Jenson in before the race...

ETA: Does anyone really believe Harry is Charles' son?

Patrick Stewart (Sir) was just interviewed by Martin at the Force India car. (go Paul, go Paul!). Full on Yorkshire accent which I was just not expecting.

Harry is the image of his father but with ginger hair. Unfortunately for the conspiracy theorists. William looks like his mother.

Agreed.

Big pussy Button you mean? How embarrassing with all those old guys beating him.

He did look a little pale after that.

I was thinking how ironic it would be if Kobayashi was unsafely released from his stop-go penalty for unsafe release from the pits, but now his engine expired (possibly due to the unsafe release) so it's a bit of a moot point.

but now... NOW... race is on! A dodgy pit stop for Vettel means Alonso leads Hamilton...

I also want to say that I love the wire-cam set up over Brooklands and Luffield.

Unbelievable final lap there...
A bit of a shame that team orders at the last minute blunted an intriguing scrap between the Red Bulls...

Yeah, that was good stuff. Poor Jenson though, and damn, that stop did Di Resta in. Of course, he didn't help himself later, but the fucked up stop took him out of real competition.

That whole last lap was amazing. Disappointing that Webber was told to back off. Hamilton is one competitive bastard.

BTW I could find a dozen pictures where H looks just like Chucky but I can't be arsed.

I think they figured after messing up the last passing attempt, Webber was too far behind to challenge safely.

Webber doesn't look upset about it.

What is it about Hamilton, Massa and final corners of the race?

Fortunately for Hamilton, all the stewards have been trapped in a room with Mansell for 90 minutes and are now all DEAD. From BOREDOM. #F1

:guffaw:

That's OK :D

I despair of Michael though, he had great pace, and would have had a top 5 finish probably, but he wrecked his own afternoon. Again.

You could have said that of several of them though. Hammy was very magnanimous at the end considering his engineer fucked up on the fuel. At least he finished unlike poor old Jensen, through another team failure. I hope the guy holding up the stop/go wasn't also the head engineer, otherwise he'll be looking for a new job.

I think mostly people had their afternoons wrecked for them. Michael was the one who stood out as wrecking his own afternoon.
