Forgive the Ds9-relaunch reading order question...

I'm just about to finish "Rising Son."

Should I go straight onto "Unity?" I notice the FAQ has a slightly different recommendation, but I feel like I could read "The Lives of Dax" at a later date and would prefer to go on with this timeline for now.

Any suggestions as to which is better? Editor suggestion or chronological?

Thanks!

You won't miss much. Just a set of fantastic stories. ;)

Hehe, there's also "The Left Hand of Destiny" a Klingon set in there, too. I'm just tired of the breaks in between storylines :). Oh well, guess I'll read in the suggested order.

Though... I notice "A stitch in time" is not there. I haven't read that, yet...

I also want to buy a Kindle, lol. Tracking down these books is getting expensive.

A Stitch in Time is the 2nd book to be read, going by the order included in Fearful Symmetry. It seems like that reading order is the equivalent of publication order, considering that it puts The Lives of Dax first.

I'm still not sure why the Klingon books are placed where they are, though. Rising Son to Unity has a little more of a flow. They make perfect sense between Avatar and Abyss in my opinion.

I know, my sig says I shouldn't be here yet, but as I'm going through the relaunch again myself, I was too interested to resist when I saw this topic on the main page.

I skipped The Lives of Dax the first time around, and I am glad I did. It was a great read though.

I have yet to read the Klingon books, A Stitch in Time, or the Gateway books, and I feel like I followed the storyline okay.

Oh yeah, I think you can follow the "ongoing story" just fine. Just don't skip those books altogether.

You could probably skip them and not be too lost. All that you'll miss with The Lives of Dax is a little bit of background that is covered pretty well in books themselves. I've never really noticed any major connection between The Left Hand of Destiny, and the rest of the DS9R, though. As for A Stich in Time, it's pretty much the same situation as TLoD.

Read Unity first, it's the end of 'Season 8' with the Worlds... books picking up 'Season 9'. TLHoD, Lives of Dax and Stitch in Time are like spin-off TV-movies aired between seasons...

Yes, to me, The Left Hand of Destiny is the the first chapter of this series:

TLHOD 1, 2
Diplomatic Implausibility
The Brave and the Bold 1, 2
IKS Gorkon 1-3
A Burning House
A Time for War, A Time for Peace

I agree.

TLHOD is the only part of the re-launch I've skipped and I don't feel I've missed too much. I may go back and read it at a later date.
