Forge of Empires

HelenofBorg

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Does anyone else here play this?

For those who haven't, you build an empire starting in the stone age and progressing through the eras. I've reached the colonial age, but I've a long way to go to get as far as you can go. Eventually you end up with a colony on Mars (they're going to introduce a ceres colony soon, but it's a good couple of years of perseverance before I get to that point.

It's one of those games that you come back to a couple of times a day to collect your coins, supplies and goods, and use them to unlock technologies, build better buildings and stuff. It's also social, you play cooperatively with other players and trade with them. All aspects of the game are gradually introduced to the player during the bronze age, iron age, and early middle ages, which gives you time to get used to the game so it isn't too much of a steep learning curve.

You also get a friends tavern during the bronze age, you should use your tavern silver to upgrade the tavern until you've maxed out on upgrades, then you'll be getting more than you can even spend. The tavern silver in the tavern shop to buy boosts to supply and coins production, and attack and defense boosts (if you battle your way through, I'm more of a peaceful trading player who uses my silver for coins and supplies, depending on what I need at the time).

I'd recommend the game to anyone, it's one of those that stays interesting and challenging (but not so hard it puts you off).

yeah I'm not a fan of this particular brand of game design, which is to say typical mobile games with timesink mechanics and several layers of currencies that obfuscate the amount of real money spent

these games would be more appealing to me (which to be honest, still wouldn't be that appealing) if they offered a full game purchase that deactivated the entire micro-transaction layer

It is possible to play Forge of Empires without spending any actual money, I've reached the Colonial era, without spending a penny. I only spend what the game provides (coins and supplies). Of course, I could have got there quicker if I was willing to pay, but I don't see what the rush is, getting there on your own is more rewarding than instant gratification.

I agree. I have been playing it for a while and I only occasionally buy diamonds. You can get along perfectly well without spending anything.
