Foreign Office 'sorry' for Pope blooper

The last paragraph of that article is absolutely beautiful"

The Foreign Office, though, apologised for what it described as a "foolish" document and said the individual responsible had been transferred to other duties. Foreign Secretary David Miliband was said to have been "appalled" to hear of the paper.

A method after the pope's own heart.

Many of the proposals appeared to mock the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church on issues like abortion, homosexuality and contraception.

Those teachings deserve to be mocked.

I agree, they should be exposed to be as stupid and evil as they are and defeated legislatively. There's nothing funny about it.

I applaud your consideration of other people's values.

When those values include open discrimination against, and slandering of people who have done nothing to deserve it and helping to spread STDs around the world, they stop being merely values or opposing points of view to be respected and become malevolent and deserving of ridicule IMO.

Of course they should be challenged at every opportunity, and humour is a good way to do so.

They have nothing to apologize for.

The idea we need a Pope in this day ,and age is ridiculous.

What is he good for?

Sez you. Someone wanna drop-kick this into TNZ (where I can't see it) before this goes further?

No, but you can feel free to no longer read the topic if it upsets you that much.

Political and hot-button discussions are allowed in Miscellaneous, so long as people refrain from insulting other posters or making broad generalizations aimed at all Catholics (or other groups) that would themselves indirectly insult posters here.

But the Church itself and its actions don't get any special protection and is open to criticism. If you disagree with a comment someone has made the best way to handle it would be to demonstrate why you feel they are wrong.

Here's the thing; I have no issue with Catholicism. What I have an issue with is any political or religious figure that actively works to hide severe transgressions committed against innocents by those under his or her authority. If the Pope has done this, then there needs to be proper action taken.

When "values" such as being against gay marriage don't hold up to any logic then, yeah, they deserve to be ridiculed.

Christianity could be an awesome religion if they just went the WWJD route instead of the bullshit route that the Vatican goes.
