Both. Logan's Run is dated but worth it, especially when you keep in mind how bleak the scifi landscape was in the 70s. And there's a very young Farrah Fawcett in it, too. :)

When it was first broadcast on US TV, Charlie's Angels had become a hit in the meantime and the network ads trumpeted "Michael York and Farrah Fawcett in Logan's Run!!" even though she's only in two scenes lol...

I remember that! I felt bad for Jenny Agutter, who was the real female lead in the movie--and much sexier than Farrah!

Yeah, no argument here! :techman:

I think both of them are very good samples of sci-fi of their eras. I enjoy each for both their good and more kitschy qualities.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up for me: "Forbidden Planet" is a timeless classic, and "Logan's Run" has Jenny Agutter. :D

If you can only get one, get Forbidden Planet. If you can get both Logan's Runis worth watching for what it is.

Logan's Run seems to be often referenced and has some memorable moments, but just isn't as overwhelmingly satisfying as Forbidden Planet.

It would have to be pretty low priced for me to shell out on, but Forbidden Planet was worth spending the extra on the special edition, with tin box and mini Robby figure.

Forbidden Planet. Absolutely! A great SF movie classic, though some of the notions are kind of quaint now. And a very influential film for those that followed. GR seemed to have picked up on the adventure and big ideas aspect of this movie, while Irwin Allen just lifted the sets :). An there is one idea that I first saw in this movie that would reappear as late as TNG and B5 (though it probably didn't originate in FB).

Oh and this seems obligatory:

Science fiction, double feature
Doctor X, will build a creature
See androids fighting, Brad and Janet
Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet
Wo oh oh oh oh oh
At the late night, double feature, picture show
Logan's Run, OTOH? Buy it only if you plan on being drunk when you watch it.

I would just like to point out that with a little time/effort, you could probably find copies of BOTH films for about $15 total (as opposed to $9-13 each) used either in a store or online.

Both films have much to commend them, and both are indisputably films of their times. FP has a very definite "First Age Novel" feel to it, like the novels of the "classic" hard s-f writers. LR is more about making political/social comments as was much of the written SF of the day (when the movie was made, not when the book was written).

Gosh do I have to spell it out? Buy BOTH.. they have 2 wonderful ladies..

Anne Francis in Forbidden Planet..

In Logan's Run..It's Jenny Agutter

Both of these ladies are reasons why I'm a confirmed Heterosexual!

I love both movies. Forbidden Planet is the superior of the two, but Logan's Run holds a special place for me, it was the first scifi film that I saw that was more than cool spaceships and aliens and explored a social message. Sure, it's outdated, but the idea of a 'youth culture' and the mall-ification of society still rings true today.

And yes, Jenny Agutter.

Both are worth owning but they should not be blind buys. You should have seen both of these years ago.
