I became a Star Trek fan in the fall of 1968 (I was 10). This week Star Trek will reveal its 730th TV episode! Do you old guys remember what it was like in 1982 when all we had was 79 episodes shown in constant rerun and two movies?

I'm almost the same age as you - one year younger. But I remember watching TOS/TAS in my childhood before TNG even existed. Which would have been before I was eight, but still, I do remember what it was like when Trek was just Kirk & co.
I was born it 1967 so all I got were reruns till TMP came out.
Looking back I am shocked by what was cut from each TOS episode to deal with the cuts n programming time. I never got to see the Kirk / Scotty "who threw the first Punch " scene till adulthood.
Trek youth of today have it sooo easy .....

Though I did become a fan at the beginning of 1991. When there were only two series. Kind of interesting how that doubled over the next few years. And then the total episode count ballooned.

I was born in 1982, and the first star trek i have a conscious memory of must have been a TV screening of The Search For Spock (vague memory of the Genesis planet). I have a distinct recollection of my older brother telling me about how Star Trek was coming back to TV, and asking him if "that's the show with the man who sits in the chair with buttons on it", so I'd clearly had some exposure to Star Trek but nothing close to an understanding of it. I was 5 when The Next Generation debuted. 
I was born March 7th 1966, just six months before Star Trek first appeared. I remember watching what must have been repeats on the TV in the UK during the 70s, plus the new animated series. Then there were the movies and Next Gen in the 80s. I can not remember a time when there wasn't a Star Trek series of one form or another on TV, until recently that is (don't have Netflix). It gave us a hopeful vision of the future to look forward to, it gave us a vocabulary for technology that hadn't even been invented, and still hasn't, but everyone know what you mean when you talk about "Warp Drives", "Tractor beams" and "Transporters" now.
Those four tones at the beginning of the Original Series epsodes though, every time I hear them...

April 2nd, 1961. I was five when Trek premiered, and I loved it from the beginning. But I morphed into a total Trekker in the early seventies during daily reruns.
Some might say that's really all we've still got....
One of the 'Discovery is not Star Trek' Clan but of the original type? 'The Next Generation is not Star Trek!'

I loved watching the reruns with my mom. She had a huge crush on Kirk. I remember hunting thru TV Guide looking for TAS because its time changed every week. I read the book "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" before seeing the movie.
(When I realized paperbacks about a movie are total crap, same for Alien)
I remember going to the movies and watching WOK and loving it. So much better than TMP.
I remember sitting there waiting for that first new episode of TNG to air. I remember being underwhelmed by "Encounter at Farpoint" but liking that new guy "Q". I remember my roommate saying it was "boring" and how could I watch that garbage. He watched every sport ever played so his opinions on fiction didn't carry much weight with me.

I can remember when it was only Star Trek and it was constantly rerun by the BBC, I never got bored of it. The time slot was continually moved around though. I first saw it when I was around 8. The long wait for the movies was ultimately an anti climax in my opinion and I never warmed to Picard and crew the way I still feel about Kirk and Co to this day.
I was never bored of Star Trek back in 1982 because the movie franchise just started so I had that to look forward to. Also, we didn't have a VHS player in 1982 so I was a slave to watching the reruns on broadcast tv so I could not binge watch the episodes over and over like today. I remember we got a VHS player in 1983 (?) and I bought Star Trek II for a whopping $29.99!! I was also buying those single episodes on VHS and they were rather expensive too...want to say around $15?
