For those who think that XI undoes TNG... (Star Trek: Countdown)

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

This is a comic book, not the opening half of the movie. It's doubtful the 24th c. is seen in the movie. They needed the money for other things.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

I think it's very cool that Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman are acknowledging the previous Treks, most specifically Picard and Co. I think behind Kirk & Spock, Picard & Data are the most popular and everlasting in the Trek lexicon, so it's cool in my opinion that they are getting a mention.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

The comic simply takes place in the 24th century BEFORE Spock takes his little trip back in time. It's from that point that the timeline gets altered, resulting in a timeline where TNG, as we know it, ceases to be.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

I highly doubt they would end STXI with an ending whereby TNG+ would be erased. It's future might be at stake IN the movie, but by the end I expect everything to be set right.

I have to agree. With the time travel aspect rather than a full reboot, Abrams seems to want to go around canon while making the movie he wants rather than just starting from scratch.

Love it. Instead of just rebooting and not giving a damn for the rest of the history.

Now the question is, is this comic set before Nemesis, or is it set after and it isn't Data on the cover, but B4.

Considering he's wearing an officers uniform, he'd have to be Data. B-4 wore that engineers jumpsuit.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

I love the promo image. I love how it hearkens back to the Comic-Con posters.

But, one little detail nags at me.

It's the colors.

On the Comic-Con posters, the four quadrants' colors were reflective of the uniform colors worn. Spock was sciences, so blue. Uhura was services, so red. Kirk was command, so yellow.

The colors of the IDW promo image are in the same order as the Comic-Con posters. But now Data, who wears yellow, is reddish, and Picard, who wears red, is yellowish.

I know, it's a minor detail. An insignificant detail. Yet, it nags at me all the same. *shrug*

Reborn Spock got his Katra back and became old Spock again. Something similar could have happened to B-4. Maybe he has regained all of Data's memories and - in a way - became Data.

I thought that the katra was the living soul, not just the sum of his memories. Spock underwent considerable retraining and adjustment, so it was certainly more than his memories.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

Well, Data transfers his core or something to B4 before his death, at the end of the film B4 starts to sing the song Data sang at the start of the film.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

^Yes but look how much younger Nero looks on the cover. The comic might take place before NEM, well before we meet Nero in the film.

Gee! Maybe Nero is a clone of.....God help us....Shinzon!

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

Well, it looks like I'll be reading my first comic book since I was a kid. -Dan
