For those who think that XI undoes TNG... (Star Trek: Countdown)

Re: For those who think that XI undoes TNG...

Not necessarily. That comic book takes place before Nero and Nimoy's Spock go back in time. The only two ways I see TNG not getting at least partly undone are that there's a reset button or they create a tangent universe with this movie.

Re: For those who think that XI undoes TNG...

Why not make it an animated direct-to-DVD movie????

Re: For those who think that XI undoes TNG...

I didn't know any of the plot of the comic, so I only have one question: why does a movie that supposedly takes place before TOS need a 'baton hand-off' from TNG, of all things? Bad enough that ENT was made to look and feel like it spun off of the 24th C. shows - is there no one creative enough to not use time travel and TNG as The Crutch for their "reimaginings?"

Can't say I like the way the evidence is piling up for this film.

Re: For those who think that XI undoes TNG...

I can't conceive of how this movie could possibly "undo" anything. Even if its a reboot, it doesn't demolish previous Trek, nor does it have to detract from anyone's enjoyment of it. No one with a large enough brain to hold two opposing ideas at once, anyway.

The only thing I want this movie to undo is Uhura's bra.

Trek seems to need a lot of baton passing...

Re: For those who think that XI undoes TNG...

This pretty much confirms that old spock is from the 24th century era (maybe not post-Nemesis since Data is alive, but at least post-Generations, post-TNG), and not from post-Star Trek VI, which would have made no sense since Nimoy is way too old to play Star Trek VI Spock.

Personally I think it's really cool that this has TNG characters and is leading up to this new movie.

Man that would have been cool. I guess its probably to late now? :(

6 months still, the entire 9 piece Animatrix animated collection was put together in about that time I think. A dtDVD movie wouldn't need as much work and could be done in the time, but it they already spent the time and money on the comic so I doubt it.

Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

Interesting. any theories as to how this has to do with Picard.

he looks silly here anyway

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

Maybe Picard Data and Spock were all pen pals after Unification. I actually kind of like the renderings on this poster, even if it looks a little color-by-numbers, or Flash animation.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

woah... how does one subscribe old-school style?

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

Here's what I don't get. Up until now, reports have indicated Nero is from post-Nemesis era. If that's the case, then how the hell can Data be there?

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

^Yes but look how much younger Nero looks on the cover. The comic might take place before NEM, well before we meet Nero in the film.

Re: Star Trek Countdown (movie prequel) cover

Nero comes back in time from the post-Nemesis era. If the story covers Nero's rise to power or capture or whatever his backstory is, some or all of that could easily take place before Data's death.

That's what I'm thinking. Countdown will essentially be Nero's whole backstory starting as a much younger man through his imprisonment at the hands of the Klingons. The film itself then picks up several years after that as he makes his escape. His encounter(s) with Picard and co. in Countdown could come at any point before Nemesis takes place.

Countdown is supposed to cover from "Unification" to whatever post-Nemesis timeframe the movie springs off from. So there's definitely room for a pre-Nemesis Data.
