For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.....

.....this new series of films will probably go 3 films max. I for one am very excited about it but I also realize that it probably wont go further than 3 films and it definitely will not be going to tv as a series.

Im seeing this film as just another part of the whole trek continuity. Yes visual continuity has been thrown out the window but so what. Superman Returns was a continuation of the Reeves story but with updated actors and set in a different time. BUT the backstory was the same.(culled from the first 2 superman movies) Yes SR wasnt a great film but the setting and actors had nothing to do with it. It was the story itself.

Thats how Im thinking of this film. Same continuity just different sets and actors to tell the story. No big deal.

So take solace hardcorers. These few films will be a very small chunk of the Trek universe and you shouldnt let it get your panties in a bunch.

If it's successful it'll probably go three films with the same creative team and then people will start leaving. The studio will lure them back with more money or will recast and hire new creative people as necessary. Or they'll contrive to do a spinoff movie or two about one or more of the main characters.

God knows what CBS will do with TV. Maybe animation.

Re: For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.

As long as it's not that animated show they started developing a couple of years ago. I'd rather see something on the Romulan War or certainly something before the 25th Century.

Star Trek could start branching out into completely different, contradicting products. Like Smallville, Superman Returns, and say, STAS. Or something.

Re: For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.

After these three films, Ridley Scott and I are doing a trilogy of young TNG movies. Pierce Brosnan is onboard as Picard and Josh Hartnett is Data since he already has no expressions. We're in discussions with Tony Todd as Worf, Rachel McAdams as Crusher and Tom Welling as Riker.

Who's playing fetus Wesley who saves the day?

Actually, I had Timothy Dalton with a shaved head in mind to portray Picard in my adaptation. And, I was saving Tom Welling for my Will Riker, too sans beard. :bolian:

I must have missed out on this. Any info? I seem to recall about the time TNG premiered, there was talk of a companion TNG animated. Is that the one?

The Untitled Animated Series was to take place several centuries after TNG. It was a TrekMovie.com story a couple of years ago.
There's also some discussion of it in this TOS Forum thread, including a link to an article or two. We had seen some sample artwork here back in 2006 by Dave Rossi, who had also worked on the "remastering" of TOS episodes, but as of about this time last year, the project appeared to be dead.

So... just why are you refering to the people who already hate this movie as the hardcore fans? :vulcan:

I certainly hope that's sarcasm...

Sarcasm with a little bit of truth.

I wouldn't consider them hardcore-anything-to-do with fans. Hardcore bitchers maybe.

As one poster pointed out. We're supposedly fans of a series that promotes optimism and openness to the future.
And so far from the "Hardcore" fans there has been very little of that.

I'll just step out of the "Hardcore" ring if it's nothing but a bunch of whining.

IIRC, Susan Sackett (Roddenberry's assistant) and Fred Bronson (aka John Culver, of TAS, and the publicist at NBC who looked after TAS) pitched a Wesley at the Academy "TNG: TAS" when it was known that Wil Wheaton was leaving. Rick Berman declared that a new TAS in the 90s would "dilute the franchise", or words to that effect. I actually think it would have helped retain a young audience to ST in general.

The OP was referring to a 25th century animated series pitched after "Nemesis" failed.

Re: For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.

My bet: three films at least, and a TV series, possibly not with the TOS characters, tho. The characters will be from the same time, and one or two will appear in one of the later movies before the series launch.

Haters, dig in for the long haul! :bolian: :rommie: :p

Who else would bother to hate a movie this far in advance of its release? Anyway, our haters are pikers compared with the BSG TOS crowd, now there's obsessive insanity for ya! When a Trek XI hater puts together a site like languatron did, then I will be impressed.

... good point.

And I'm with yah on that bet
