For the first time I saw the trek fan documentary Trekkies. I was pretty shock how some fans will wear their costume on an every day basis or they want their co-workers to call them Lt. Commander at their job. Anne Murphy take a Brent break at the end of the day outside staring at the mountain just down below is Brent's house. I often wonder if she ever gone to Brent's place just waiting and staring for Brent to come out of his house to get into his car and drive off. The cross dresser playing the MIA astronaut's wife. I often wonder if these people have moved on or are they still doing it. I like the one guy that was sending post cards and travel mags to Paramount.

Sad thing is: Most average people probably think that the majority of Trek fans is like that.

There are more sports fans out there in the world then Trekkers. Most of your sports fan are your "Joe Schmoes" Soccer being one of the world's biggest sports except in America.

Yes. And here in Melbourne in AFL jackets and scarfs and hats (can't remember any t-shirts, but then it's not played in the summer.) I can think of 3 people who would be working in shops down the street from me who are pretty much always wearing some kind of AFL item during the footy season. It's not weird at all, it's totally acceptable.

But if I wear my star trek jacket down the street I always get comments, often ribbing ones about my freakish jacket. I know for a fact that I have friends who think I look stupid in this jacket, that it is childish.

It's definitely a matter of majority culture = acceptable.

On the plus side I have met many Trekkies IRL because of wearing something Trek while out. This is my hobby, why shouldn't I enjoy wearing clothes that identify with it?

the documentary is a bit biased in that they mostly show fans who go to work in trek clothing or dedicated rooms to the franchise. they did this because showing the fans who have just a few collectibles and dvds would be boring and wouldn't sell the documentary.
i consider myself a fan and i only have a few dvds and some models that i can display on just one large shelf.

suffice to say, if you want to sell something, make it outrageous.

I am rather geeky in my star trek practice (go to conventions, wear the costumes, speak a bit of Klingon etc) yet still people say "ah but you're not like one of those REALLY nerdy Trekkies! What more need I do!?
It's just that I don't meet their stereotype image.
There are so many Trekkies in the closet and I worry that shows like Trekkies, although amusing, might keep some from coming out.

Through community service she earned her rank, but I could be wrong.

Trekkies 2 is great because they visit Trekkie hotspots (lol) internationally. They go to varying cities in Europe and to Australia. I have now seen at least one person in Trekkies 2 at a con, woot. It's better than Trekkies 1 in many ways.
