For "shiggles", notions on Whittaker's wardrobe

Nah. The scarf doesn’t need to come back. Regardless of Baker’s length of run and successs, he was one person who played the role.

And I’m hoping for something that’s not a woman just wearing men’s clothes, like a tie, etc. Seems a bit cliche.

Why not lean into the femininity? I’m not suggesting boobs, heels and skirts, but at the same time throwing men’s clothes on a woman seems lazy.

You know, usually I'm full of all sorts of speculation for the next Doctors outfit, I remember I designed and speculated all sorts for Capaldi. But I'm completely stuck on what Whittaker should wear. I don't want anything too feminine such as a big dress, but I don't want anything that looks too boyish either, such as basically a female suit like I've seen suggested here. Something low-key and fairly gender neutral I think would be the best choice. I think skinny jeans (known as pants to you Americans) would be a good choice, to be honest, something that's not too far a stray from her promotional outfit.
Something I don't want though is a scarf, like I've seen suggested for the past couple of Doctors now. Scarfs are iconic for Doctor Who, but in my opinion it's a trademark of the Fourth Doctor, and shouldn't really be copied again. Well, not a stripy scarf like I've seen in concept art anyway, something plain perhaps.
Anyway, here's some gender neutral looks I think could work.

Capaldi has gone Victorian on more than one occasion, though to be fair in "Deep Breath" is was as much from needing a disguise or a warm smelly coat. He's also dressed up for "Mummy on the Orient Express", which is arguably a period piece.

Since Capaldi never really had a single look, I would argue that "Mummy on the Orient Express" was more just another variation on the black jacket theme that he used throughout Season 8. And I'm not sure "Deep Breath" should be counted since the post-regeneration episode is normally a different thing from the Doctor's regular look. Tennant wore pajamas & a bathrobe for most of "The Christmas Invasion." Smith was stuck in the raggedy remnants of Tennant's last suit up until the final moments of "The Eleventh Hour."

OTOH, Six stands out by actually dressing up in the clothes of an alien culture in one story (Revelation of the Daleks).

Although that wasn't to blend in but to show respect since he was going to a funeral.

Helen Mirren wore an outfit for Paris Fashion Week that's downright Doctor-ish and would work for Whitaker.

Fan artist Paul Hanley had a great design for a female Doctor, based on actress Ruth Wilson. With a couple tweaks, I think it'd work perfectly for Whittaker.

I agree with both Hanley and Redfern on one thing - it's way past time for The Scarf (in one variation or another) to make a comeback!

I disagree. While Tom Baker wasn't the only one to wear a scarf (always forgetting Sylvester McCoy), he wore it so definitively that I don't think anyone else has any business trying. At least if we're talking about a prominent scarf. McCoy got away with the scarf because his outfit was so busy that no one noticed.

I like the woman in the middle with the red pants. It's hip without being sexy and stylish without looking like too much effort.
