As for the more difficult ships in my estimation...well, I can see a few where I think the crew mix would make it difficult for me. I can't see it working on the Sutherland...I haven't even read the stories yet, but Shelby has a reputation that precedes her. And blunt as it is, I do not think I could serve very well on a ship where I did not respect my commanding officer. I tend to look for a strong example on AND off duty, and while I know others would disagree, that's just my personal bias.
That's ok, Liz doesn't hold it against you.

If you are able to get around to reading any of my Sutherland stories, then I would be interested in getting your take on the evolution of her character, although I will admit that "Shoreleave" is probably the story I'm least fond of--it's hard to get comedy right and I don't feel like I really succeeded here. Seriously, I do find myself often walking a tight-rope with Shelby--it's very easy to take her "over the top" while pushing the envelope with her. In any event, you'd probably feel more at home with Bob Wesley on the Lexington or Chris Hobson on the Perseus as they're both more in the traditional vein of starship captains while at the same time I've tried to give them their own individual virtues and failings.
