For readers/authors: where would you serve?

As for the more difficult ships in my estimation...well, I can see a few where I think the crew mix would make it difficult for me. I can't see it working on the Sutherland...I haven't even read the stories yet, but Shelby has a reputation that precedes her. And blunt as it is, I do not think I could serve very well on a ship where I did not respect my commanding officer. I tend to look for a strong example on AND off duty, and while I know others would disagree, that's just my personal bias.

That's ok, Liz doesn't hold it against you. :) She does march to the beat of her own drummer, and not everyone likes that particular tune, but that's ok.

If you are able to get around to reading any of my Sutherland stories, then I would be interested in getting your take on the evolution of her character, although I will admit that "Shoreleave" is probably the story I'm least fond of--it's hard to get comedy right and I don't feel like I really succeeded here. Seriously, I do find myself often walking a tight-rope with Shelby--it's very easy to take her "over the top" while pushing the envelope with her. In any event, you'd probably feel more at home with Bob Wesley on the Lexington or Chris Hobson on the Perseus as they're both more in the traditional vein of starship captains while at the same time I've tried to give them their own individual virtues and failings.

Nobody wants to serve on Vesta? Sheesh it isn't that dangerous a place! :guffaw:

Hey, don't feel bad--nobody's opted for the Thirteenth Order, or any of my Cardassian ships, either. Though I can understand why people might feel a bit out of place there... ;)

^ Thank you, Brother! Those aboard the little ship that could salute you! :bolian::lol:

Hey! I didn't flat-out say "no"!

Though if Sigils and Unions didn't contradict United Trek, I would recommend a meeting between the Romac and the Gibraltar...maybe between the two of them, they could put together a functioning crew. ;)
With their track record, Sandhurst would simply beam Lar'ragos over to take the ship, ala Commander Kruge from ST:TSFS.

Only problem being what Glinn Meray might do to the incoming transporter beam. Serain Meray + transporters + invaders = deadly combo. :p

 Pava'd probably appreciate the gesture. He's come so close so often, but nobody's succeeded in killing him yet. I think he's wondering if it will ever happen.

Jumping into the deep end, as new reader. Based on my real life background I would have been a worker in one of the Cardassian refugee camps. :(

Picking a ship, with my personality, I'd go either Bluefin or Gibraltar.

Echoing Stalkers,

No votes for serving with Captain Glover on the Cuffe or Aegis? Man, you guys are tough:lol:. Terrence isn't that bad, and not only a handful of people die each story. You might be one of the lucky ones to survive.

Personally I wouldn't mind serving on Sutherland or Independence. They've got two of the hottest captains in Trek fan fic, plus I Anara, Django, Treasure, and Soma aren't bad lookers either I bet.

I also wouldn't mind visiting the Eagle for a while to see DeMara. Yowsers!

Yeow...is it OK to ask what happened? (If not, just ignore this.)

Nothing big, at least at that time. I spent 4 years, May 1982 to June 1986, working in Somalia. The Halba 1 and 2 camps near Luuq (2 1/2 years), the National Leprosarium (6 months trying to set up a farm with the patients), loaned like a library book to the UN to reorganize a camp in the north at Tuq Wajalle and a year in Mog.

I liked the work. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, only one of my Somali friends and co workers survived the civil war.

So yeah, the Cardassian refugee camp for me.

Okay, as I'm presently catching up with CeJay’s Star Eagle Adventures, I’ve got to say I would not mind serving under Captain Owens. He’s a level-headed leader who’s assembled a top notch crew around him. They get the job done, no matter the odds, and they’ve established an impressive track record of service. :)

You know... even if they did get whipped by an escort in those wargames. ;)

I'm nowhere near caught up with all the new crews/ships.

But I do love the Gibralter. I think I would serve on her, but die like a redshirt within a few days. Nonetheless, the TOS-loving soul I have HAS to choose a Constitution-class first.

If I somehow lived through that, I'd totally be in the Thirteenth Order. Because that kind of uncommon valor, in the face of overwhelming odds? Totally makes my heart pound.
