Oh so that is their name... the Vardans.. sorry I forgot..Why not?? the Vardans outfits looked to be the inspiration for Spaceballs' dark helmets desert uniform! ha ha!

I'm not saying they have to be like their past selves, Moffat could redesign them, and since they have super mental powers and are technologically advanced almost to the time lord level makes them a cool villain for the lone doctor to fight against.. and not to mention, their entire planet would hate the doctor for what happened to them..

maybe just a handful of Vardans who escaped their planets imprisonment track down the doctor, that would be a great one as well..last of the time lords, and last of the Vardans..

not the sontarans..

the sontarans just took advantage of the Transduction barrier being down and invaded right after..

but as far as I remember the Vardans were in charge of themselves.. and had a machine that made them appear as energy forms.. a sort of phased force shield of some sort..and they could read the doctor's thoughts.

My understanding was that the Vardans were used by the Sontarans to get the barrier down. I mean for God's sake they were small and scottish and looked like rusling tin foil!
