For Fraiser fans

OH MAN!!! Frasier and Trek--two of my favorite shows ever! I don't even like Voyager or Kate Mulgrew all that much, but that just about made me fall off my chair! :rommie:

TNG & Diane Carey brought "Fraiser" (Kelsey Grammar,) to life as Captain Morgan Bateson in "Cause And Effect" / "Ship Of The Line".

I saw that amusing clip for the first time a couple months ago. Who would be responsible for the Trek references on that show -- the writers, director? Who are they.

There might have been a fan on staff somewhere but Star Trek and Frasier were both produced by Paramount, so I guess mentions of Star Trek would count as cross-promotion?

I first saw the Voyager sketch years ago - it was some 30th Anniversary show lumped in with a VHS Trek movie boxset I had. I found it somewhat funny then but it wasn't till years lats when I started watching Frasier it became doubly funny.

It's a shame Kelsey Grammar wasn't involved somehow, though that was around the time he was in rehab I think.

^ I don't remember where I read this (I think it was one of the magazines from around the 30th anniversary) that the scene - when written - would have used only the Frasier cast with Kelsey playing the Captain. He was, as said, in rehab so those plans were scrapped.

Bit of Trivia: Jane Leeves (Daphne) was a Trek fan. She admitted in TVGuide that she stole a combadge from the set of Voyager.

I actually haven't gotten around to watching "Frasier" yet. I like it, the isolated episodes I've seen; but there is so much TV and so little time. I will probably one day; I like to watch shows on DVD.

My husband says I always wait around until they're aged enough, like cheese or wine, I guess. In fact, his phrase is "rotten enough." I never watched X-Files while they were on, but went through all nine seasons of the DVD's like popcorn a couple years ago. I rewatched VOY and ENT this year, so that gets in the way, too. Priorities.

I got that box set when it was released and for reasons unknown to me, long after the VCR died I still have it sitting next to me.

I remember finding it amusing at the time, but not so much now for some reason. The only part I remember fondly from that video was the Ben Stiller intro and video (which always makes me crack a smile seeing the lead villian in Zoolander) and the SFX compilation.

I've seen that Frasier sketch a few times. It's amusing, but not laugh out loud funny. It probably would have been better if Grammer was in the captain's chair.

Well I personally lost it when the Klingon showed up with the dog but then I guess my humor is odd that way. :D

You are correct. :D Even though I adored this parody, it would have been a WHOLE lot funnier if Frasier had been the captain instead of Kate Mulgrew(even though I absolutely adore her and loved her in this parody as well). It was sad he was in rehab during this time. :( But Frasier, mixed in with Trek/Voyager, was absolutely brilliant and priceless!!! :D And Niles was just downright histerical. And when they brought Eddie in(the dog) with that Klingon I literally fell out of the bed! :D

Just wanted to add (since it's somewhat related): Grammer's Morgan Bateson character appeared in the latest novel Lost Souls.

He's Captain of the USS Atlas - that's all the further I'm going.
