I've been downloading .puz crosswords for about 10 years. Used to be some newspapers had their own downloadable files, but that's gone away over the years.

This site has several weekly ones you can download and at the moment, access to all the daily NYT puzzles going back to 1996.

About a year ago, I downloaded all the NYT ones, but then it went back to being by subscription only, so I got all the ones going back to late April 2011 tonight.

These work with the across lite application, as well as something similar for smartphones & tablets, though it's not easy to do them on a smartphone.

At the moment I have around 12,000 puzzles saved, though I don't get as many done as I used to.

T hanks for the info. I am on my iPad at the moment but later, when i get up out of bed, I will download some on my laptop.

Are there cryptic crosswords?

I don't think any of them are, but I haven't exactly gotten to all of them
