Flying?

Looking out the window as the plane picks up speed down the runway and takes off never gets old. :bolian:

If you have any liquids or gels in a zip-lock, they go in the bin.
And make sure they're all in quantities under 100ml. Recently, I had a smoothie with me and had to open it and drink it on the spot while the rest of my stuff was going through the x-ray machine. Couldn't take it through.

Drink lots of water before you get on the plane because the air is dry on the plane and may dehydrate you.
I just purchase a drink in the terminal and bring it on the plane, which you're allowed to do, unlike bringing one from home. That way, I'll have something if I need it. If I drink too much before hand, I'll have to go to the bathroom and I'd rather not do that on a plane.

Bring plenty of entertainment...
On my flight, the seats had their own TV screens with shows, movies, news, radio, etc on demand. There was even a GPS channel so you could see where the plane was, how high it was flying and how fast it was going. I had it on when I couldn't sleep and couldn't wait to land.

If you have the room, take som clothes in the carry-on luggage, it's not fun to be at your destination without clothes, after you realize your bags are in Kandahar, or something.

Then you ain't hanging out at the right airports.

I mean, sure, the description applies well enough to the big commercial hubs. But if you go find that rural strip with no TSA or metal detectors, where you can go stand on the ramp filled with biplanes and home-builts and watch the Stedman practicing aerobatics 200 feet over the runway....that's a pretty cool place to hang out for a day.

(I'm describing KHWY.)

Also, the Starbucks in Terminal A of Newark's airport has the rudest wastes of human protoplasm working there that I have ever met. They wouldn't even take A STARBUCKS CARD as payment! I swear I am not making this up: they were afraid it would crash their computer. :guffaw: :(

Do you guys have Airline preferences? I could take a pick from a handful for my trip really.

United is the one I am going with at this point...but Delta, US Airways, American Airlines & Continental are also available.

There aren't all that many differences between the airlines anymore, aside from their baggage fees and in-flight entertainment.

^ And whether or not you can get a nonstop flight to where you're going. That's why I fly Continental, since they offer nonstop from Omaha to Newark. (Midwest doesn't.)

I've done both United and Delta on my travels to the US. I can't say there's much difference (as Lindley said).

I miss flying. I was averaging 125,000 miles per year at one point. Not sure I could do it these days with all the hassle of security and additional fees.

I love Southwest. But it sounds like you don't have that as one of your possible choices.

I use to love sitting next to the window, but these days that seat leaves me feeling very claustrophobic, so now i HAVE to sit on the aisle. God forbid i have to sit in the middle seat!
