Florida woman calls 911 three times over... McNuggets.

^Everyone should have a phone with a cord in their home, even if you don't plug it in. The problem with cordless phones is that the base stations typically require an additional power supply over what the phone line can provide. In the event of a power cut, the base station may not work anymore.
I joined the other 30% of Americans who dumped their landline in favor of using the cellphone as my primary phone. I believe statistics put it at over 75% of Americans, under the age of 30, have *never* had a landline.:p

I can believe it. I've had a land line my whole life, but I'd dump it if I could. Our cell phones have a dead zone that starts just a 1/2 mile from the house and continues for about two miles regardless of carrier. We're suppose to get coverage later this year, soon as we do bye bye AT&T. Hells, the land line is costing me more than broadband internet. And if I had to make a choice, I can live without the landline.

Also, I have to thank BJ for that article. You should go read it. Turns out, she accepted the change in order initially, then changed her mind and called 911. So, in this case, I don't think the customer has much of a legt to stand on.

Oh really, let's recap the article shall we, here's an extract from it:

On Tuesday, Goodman said she agreed to get a McDouble in lieu of the McNuggets as long as she also got the difference in price back. Goodman said the only menu items she cares for are McNuggets and McDoubles.
Goodman claimed a McDonald’s worker wouldn’t give her the difference in money back, so Goodman decided she wanted a full refund.
So they gave her an item that didn't cost as much as the McNuggets and they wouldn't give her the difference in money back. So they were now over charging for an item. It was after this fact that she then decided she wanted a full refund.
You ever read the return policy of most stores? They are usually equal or, hmm... whats that word I'm thinking of... Oh yeah, LESSER VALUE

Now a box of nuggets is what? 3 bucks? aprox. Mcdouble and fries, which is what she was offered, is how much? between 2 and 3 isn't it? I'm honestly asking, cause I haven't been to mcdonalds in a while and don't remember seeing a mcdouble on the menu, so I don't know how much it costs.

Nothing was being returned, she never got what she went in for. They took her money and then refused to give it back.

I wouldn't know, I don't eat at McDonalds and i've never even heard of a McDouble, perhaps that's only sold in America, I really don't know but the article and what she says and from the staffs refusals it appears clear that the McDouble was not as much as what she'd already paid. She was therefore over charged. As I said, there was no 'returns policy' the begin with, since nothing was returned, she paid $3 dollars for a McDouble that didn't cost $3.

This type of situation could have occured in any shop and with regards to ANY amount of money, it doesn't matter if it was $3 ot $50 or whether it was in McDonalds or Walmart, the fact remains she was ripped off.
They took her money for a product before even checking they had it in stock and then refused to give a refund.
Let's go back to my DVD analogy, if this had happened in a DVD store, should I accept a DVD I don't want and which costs less? and shoud I accept that they won't give me the price difference back?

I just love how they decided to include facts about the McNuggets in the article.
I think the reporter was struggling to fill space.

McNuggets, introduced to the McDonald’s national menu in 1983, are sold in more than 100 countries and often are dunked in barbecue or hot mustard sauce. Goodman’s 10-piece selection has 460 calories and 29 grams of fat.

In another incident this week, an Ohio woman is charged with child endangerment after being spotted driving while talking on her cell phone and breastfeeding her child.

While driving through a Wal-mart parking lot, I was almost creamed by an SUV. I parked. Shaking, I got out of the car and walked toward the SUV, now parked. It was a woman, topless, breastfeeding a baby. I can't make this shit up, and no one will believe me.

Hey, they get paid by the word.

Admittedly, those particular foodstuffs wouldn't fill my own intra-abdominal space, let alone the space on some hack's copy.

if she paid for a Dodge Viper but was given a Pinto instead the dealership she went to would be under investigation

You know the sad thing about this is that things like this happen ALL the time. I've read numerous stories where people get annoyed at some fast food joint or restaurant and call 911 to complain, or call over something else equally as trivial. What is with these people? They need to be punished to the maximum extent allowed for misusing 911. It's ridiculous that ANYONE would think this was an appropriate use of the service.

But she did want it. It says in the article that she accepted the mcdouble, even likes mcdouble's. And while I do agree it could have been handled a lot better, I still say she over-reacted, and it certainly wasn't an emergency.

AP story

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida woman called 911 three times after McDonald's employees told her they were out of Chicken McNuggets. According to a police report, 27-year-old Fort Pierce resident Latreasa L. Goodman told authorities she paid for a 10-piece last week but was later informed the restaurant had run out.

She says employees refused to give her a refund, saying all sales were final. A cashier told police she offered Goodman a larger portion of different food for the same price, but Goodman became irate.

Police say Goodman was cited on a misuse of 911 charge. A current phone listing for Goodman couldn't be found.

A McDonald's spokeswoman said the company didn't immediately have a comment on the incident.

Needs to grow up. Really. Even toddlers having tantrums eventually give up and move on. Though, the McD's employee shoujld have made sure they even had the mcnuggets in the first place...

But she did want it. It says in the article that she accepted the mcdouble, even likes mcdouble's. And while I do agree it could have been handled a lot better, I still say she over-reacted, and it certainly wasn't an emergency.

I agree. Not like she was going to die if she didn't get what she wanted right then and there or something.

She accepted the McDouble on the condition that they give her the difference in price back, when they refused to do so she demanded a refund. She was only willing to accept the McDouble if her condition was met, and it wasn't. There no way of getting around this, McDonalds was in the wrong and McDonalds broke the law and effectively stole her $3. The only reason why people aren't batting for her cause is because it was only $3. If it had been $300 I think peoples reaction to this story would be a lot more in her favour.
Of course it wasn't an emergency but it still warranted police involvement.

If it was 300, or 3000, I would still say she over reacted and should NOT have called 911. She should have asked to talk to a manager, she should have asked for corporates phone number. 911 is for emergencies. As disagreement in a McDonald is NOT and emergency.

But they also have batteries, so the concern is rather minimal.
Nope. The base station draws 110V household current. Batteries wont cut the mustard for wireless connectivity to the hand set. When the power goes out, the base station goes tits up and you are out of power.

Oh yeah and the woman is a dumb bitch for dialing 911 over some fucking chicken McNuggets and the McDonald's chick was wrong not to return the money when no food had been given to the customer.

Hre in Hurricane Alley you better not take that chance.

Totally off-topic but...that 75% may not have had a land line that they paid for themselves but I bet they all used land lines when they were living with their parents. And most of that 75% have probably only been on their own for a few years. So maybe that number will be more relevant when they hit 40. :p
I'm still a few years from 30 and not too many kids had their own cell phone when I was in high school.

According to the stats I read, you are correct in saying they never had a landline *when on their own*. I should have been more clear about that.

I dont understand why she wasnt given a refund in the first place, was the manager not around that day?
