AP story

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Florida woman called 911 three times after McDonald's employees told her they were out of Chicken McNuggets. According to a police report, 27-year-old Fort Pierce resident Latreasa L. Goodman told authorities she paid for a 10-piece last week but was later informed the restaurant had run out.

She says employees refused to give her a refund, saying all sales were final. A cashier told police she offered Goodman a larger portion of different food for the same price, but Goodman became irate.

Police say Goodman was cited on a misuse of 911 charge. A current phone listing for Goodman couldn't be found.

A McDonald's spokeswoman said the company didn't immediately have a comment on the incident.

One call is enough. Theft and all that. But three? Too much. And over "Chicken?" McNuggets no less. *shakes head*

Well technically she paid for goods and never received those goods and was refused a refund so the McDonalds staff pretty much thieved her money. The police should have took the matter seriously as a case of theft.

It may sound silly over some chicken McNuggets but it's the principle of it. If the police aren't going to take such actions seriously then what's stopping the McDonalds staff doing this to other customers ever night in order to acquire extra money in their pocket? just charge people, tell them their item is sold out and just refuse to give their money back.

If I ordered a DVD of Ironman and they told me they'd sold out, refused to give me my money back and then offered a DVD the same price but of something completely different (a film I don't like or want) I think that would kinda be breaking the law.

I agree the store was wrong (and they've already admitted so).

But still, you don't call 911 over $3.00 of missing chicken. That's just stoopid.

Sometimes there is no other way to get ahold of the police. You used to be able to contact the police directly for non-emergency situations like this.

If I need to get ahold of the police now for non-critical situations I have to call 911 and ask for my call to be routed to the police department.

Well before the days of 118 118 I would probably have to dial 999 also. I haven't got a clue what the phone number is for my local police station.

911: What is the nature of the emergency?

Guy: I'd like to report a theft.

911: What has happened sir?

Guy:
The cash machine won't give me my money.

That's what 311 is for.:vulcan:

311? Never heard of it. *checks wiki* Ah. It's a service only in a few areas, not everywhere in the US.

I've never heard of it either.

911 for emergencies. 411 for information. That's all I know.

Oh, and *69, which I'm pretty sure was just a silly fad.

They used to have a non-emergency number in parts of the UK, 101 I think it was, for reporting non-urgent crimes, but for some reason it didn't catch on. (I think all calls cost 10p, or the equivalent of €0.00007 in today's money. ;))
