Re: FlashForward: "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" 10/29 - Grade/Disc

Basically just an average episode that moved things forward slightly, but not by much.

Re: FlashForward: "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" 10/29 - Grade/Disc

I think the events of this episode and the previous one kind of disproved that the flash forward features events which will occur no matter what? Janis didn't look like she had a scar on her stomach in that flash forward to her ultrasound and the future was 6 months away, factoring in hospital time and injury I don't see how she could get knocked up and be showing that much after a couple months.

Although what the chick on the train said also disproves it, there's going to be some kind of huge event in Times Square counting down to the moment that everyone flash forwarded to and since there isn't hundreds of thousands of people on Mosaic saying they were hanging out in Times Square (or i sure as hell would have hoped that got mentioned in the investigation) then that kind of means the future isn't written in stone.

It will be interesting to see if the conversation between Simcoe and Simon is a red herring or not since
It was his experiment which did indeed cause the flash forward and the producers said they weren't going to follow the book verbatim and might just put in easter eggs that those who read it would recognize, but might not necessarily be true

Re: FlashForward: "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" 10/29 - Grade/Disc

I liked this episode. It got back to the mystery aspect and the interactions between the characters were great. Much better than the last three.

And what's up with that guy on the bus? "I will end you." Nothing like death threats to spice up a trip on the old public transit system. Hope the driver called the cops.

Spoken like someone who's never used public transportation. ;)

Re: FlashForward: "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" 10/29 - Grade/Disc

I found renewed interest in this series from this episode. I'm wondering about something, though, I noticed this last week with the Vice President's flash forward and the woman on the train. Their flash forwards weren't shown to the viewing audience - could they be lying about their flash forwards?

Average

Interesting episode, but nothing too important happened.

Three hours every day (except weekends). You'll understand, I have a low tolerance threshold for assholes on buses.

...bored now...

They're making a serious strategic mistake. In order to make the soap opera plot work, they're making Mark into a much bigger douchebag than necessary. Yet, he's the lead character, and the audience will follow this show to the extent they feel affection, identification, and loyalty to Mark. They're endangering the entire show for the sake of a plotline that was stupid to begin with!

Right now, Demitri is my only reason to stick with this show. I'm thinking they have a season's worth of decent material here, maybe, but after that? I really don't see it.

Already they're falling back on very tired TV tropes. The cop-show shoot-out. The medical emergency. The crockery-smashing soap scene. The crockery may have been smashed only in a metaphorical sense but this is a crock in a very real sense.

They are blowing a premise that could be so much more creatively handled. Here we have the first Halloween since the whole world has been upended by seeing their futures, a night when the world is traditionally upended, just for fun, and yet all we see is a rather dull iteration of sububan trick or treat traditions plus Hardy Boys follow-the-clues.

I don't buy Dominic Monaghan as an eeevil genius one iota. And of all the possible explanations for why the flashfoward happened, for it to be a physics accident has got to be the dullest. (That may still be a red herring. I sure hope so.)

^^^ True. I'm wondering if the guys who think they caused it don't know that they actually didn't. There would be your second season. Everyone thinks they find out what's going on and then we go to another outer "shell" in the story. The "larger picture" convention that's becoming a cliche in multi-arc TV series.

That does seem like the most likely other-shoe-dropping. But will this show make it that far? Nobody's been paying much attention to the demos, so I was shocked to see that the show is in a moderate degree of free fall:

09.24.09 - 12.47 M - 4.0/12
10.01.09 - 10.73 M - 3.7/11
10.08.09 - 9.00 M - 3.0/9
10.15.09 - 9.07 M - 3.1/9
10.29.09 - 8.98 M - 2.7/ 8

Just for context, the rumored-to-be-dead-show-walking Heroes - on a network and a night without anywhere near the expectations of an ABC Thurs show - is at 2.5/6 in the demo. After years of hemmorhaging ratings.

Re: FlashForward: "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" 10/29 - Grade/Disc

Over/under on Mark and Olivia's marriage lasting past November sweeps? And if Janis was however pregnant she was in the flash forward, when would she have been impregnated?

Re: FlashForward: "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" 10/29 - Grade/Disc

And what's up with that fuckin' kangaroo?

:wtf:

They must've run out of polar bears.

Kangaroo = Vincent :D

I'm finally caught, up, so I can start commenting on these...

And if Janis was however pregnant she was in the flash forward, when would she have been impregnated?

From the way he was looking at her after her second surgery, I'm betting it'll be the FBI boss, whether in vitro or the old-fashioned way. Apparently he's done it once before ...

So if Flash Forward's plot takes place over 6 months then you would assume this would wrap up in the first season. If thet is case, what happens in season 2 and beyond, they have another flash forward? or one each season?

I think he's mistaking the President's illegitimate son as being the director's illegitimate son.

Re: FlashForward: "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" 10/29 - Grade/Disc

But will this show make it that far?

It was picked up for a full season.

That's no guarantee. Shows that supposedly got a full season have been un-picked-up if the ratings falter badly enough.
If thet is case, what happens in season 2 and beyond, they have another flash forward? or one each season?

The true cause of the flash forward is revealed to be something other than the physics experiment at the end of S1.

I think you're absolutely right. I was. I still think the "father as a friend" thing is feasible, though.
