'Flashback'

Chief Medical Officer

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Don't know if this has been talked about lot in this forum, but what do others think about the episode 'Flashback'? I really enjoyed this one, and felt it was really ingenious how they integrated an older plot line into ST:VOY. Since you knew Tim Russ was in Star Trek VI, but at the time didn't know his name, it was really neat to see how this character actually represented Tuvok so many years ago in his early days in Starfleet. Great tie-in!

And, of course, it's always great to see any members of the original crew. Sulu was great as he always is, and it was a pleasure to see Janice Rand make it into the spotlight, if only for a few scenes.

Overall, this was a great tie-in episode and probably one of the best across the franchise.

I like VOY "Flashback" because it is a supplementary part of TUC.
As DS9 "Trials & Tribble-ations" is a supplementary part of TOS "Trouble With Tribbles".

I hate episodes where they're in a reality that doesn't matter. They could stab Sulu then take a dump on a console and it would mean nothing. It's not a favourite but it has some charm. The idea of a traumatising meme as a lifeform was certainly intereresting though.

I wonder would the story have been interesting if Tuvok was actually on the Enterprise and had issues with Spock's ethics? We didn't have to see him along with the Main cast to get the effect of the time jump, but having him integrate within the 430 crew members and dealing with the assassination would've been interesting than anything going on board the Excelsior.

It was okay. I enjoyed seeing Rand and Kang again but it proved a Captain Sulu series would not have worked. Sulu is iconic but George's acting has never been the greatest. I do enjoy when the spin off shows reference TOS. It's nice to know it's all part of the same continuity. Trials And Tribble-ations was more fun though.

DSN's 30th Anniversary special was the easily the superior of the two, sure Flashback had it's moments.
