Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical movie?

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

Well, I'm sufficiently intrigued to give the series a look.

Marian

A series that was canceled a year ago and haplessly doomed to be canceled less than half way through it's run and the pilot was so insanely bad, being someone who has watched Smallville, Voyager and Andromeda with wide eyed optimism decided the show was unwatchable drenn unworthy my inexpensive time.

^^Look, if you aren't interested in the show, fine, that's your choice (and your loss). But if someone else wants to give it a fair shake, they have a right to make that choice.

I was only meaning it was too late to save the show. interest a year an a half ago would have been better. Which is none of our fault. It's those buggers in charge of Marketing and exploitation who let the team down. Besides, they haven't even had a first run in the distant country I live in, I'm only talking about my disinterest in committing my bandwidth to the task, which I should have mentioned. If they play it on TV I'll probably be enthralled.

No remake of Flash Gordon can proceed without a scene where Ornella Muti gets chained to a table and whipped ? If not, what would ITV cut out in Saturday afternoon showings ? :D

Certainly not the part(s) where Klytus stands around rubbing himself, clearly aroused by Flash wearing just a pair of tight shorts.

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

Considering his death fit, I'm not quite sure what he was rubbing under that armor or is he interlocking bits at all for the princess to interlock with no matter his interest with her.

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

^Given that the restraints holding Aura down appear to be Klytus' hands, I have no idea.

Exactly. "That which does not kill us makes us stronger". :D

Isn't Flash Gordon on another network now? I could have sworn I saw it on another network, like ION or something.

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

^^Yes, it's being rerun on ION, but the show is no longer in production.

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

Because it seems like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon are the two characters that have been remade for each successive generation.

Buck Rogers was remade as Farscape - huge revisions, rendering the source material almost moot. Maybe Flash needs the same treatment.

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

^^What??? That's not true either literally or figuratively. Any similarities are superficial. They both involve present-day astronauts as their leads, but John Crichton was not frozen in time for 500 years and Buck Rogers wasn't on a living ship full of aliens fleeing an interstellar empire. If anything, Farscape is much closer to Flash Gordon -- a present-day Earthman on the run in an exotic alien realm.

It is going away from the established mood and style of the original that made the TV series suck.

It is going away from the established mood and style of the original that made the TV series suck.

And embracing it once again that made the latter half of the TV series vastly better. Pretty much everything from "Sorrow" onward, albeit still a low-budget production, was much closer in spirit and storyline to classic Flash Gordon than the more Earthbound first half of the season.

Indeed, I find it remarkable how similar the first-season finales of the Filmation FG and the SciFi FG were in their resolution. Both ended with Ming being overthrown by the coalition Flash had built, having a climactic battle with Flash, and ultimately escaping to fight another day. Of course, the new ruler was Ming's estranged son Terek rather than Barin, but I figure they had to substitute Terek due to Steve Bacic's unavailability to return as Barin. (Not that I know for a fact he was unavailable, but it's the most likely explanation for why Barin vanished and the similar Terek character was introduced.) And Terek was a much more ambiguous figure, who probably would've become more villainous had the series gone on to a second season.

Too bad for the producers that so many people had already given up on the show before they did that.

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

^^Yes, that's the tragedy of the show. They had a great show in them, but it took them too long to find it. Although as I believe I've said above, I blame the network for that. It was the SciFi execs' belief that viewers only want to see shows grounded in the real world that presumably led to the misguided decision to keep the first half-season mostly Earth-based.

Re: Flash Gordon TV series flopped...so they're making a theatrical mo

Back to a bit from a few days ago, the "Flash" song by Queen is as misquoted as Jesus Christ, Superstar. Like it or not, here's how it goes:

Flash
Savior of the Universe

Flash
He save everyone of us

Flash
He's a miracle

Flash
King of the impossible

He's for everyone of us
Stand for everyone of us
He save with a mighty hand
Every man, every woman
Every child, with a mighty flash

Just a man
With a man's courage
Nothing but a man
But he can never fail
No-one but the pure at heart
May find the Golden Grail

One of the worse songs ever made by any artist ever.

Which kind of goes against some of the most awesome songs ever produced by the same artist ever.

It actually says "He save?" That's not a typo? Egad, and I thought the lyrics were stupid before...

No, it's a typo nice way to jump to a conclusion.

Flash - a-ah - he'll save everyone of us
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Flash - a-ah - king of the impossible

He's for everyone of us
Stand for everyone of us
He'll save with a mighty hand
Every man every woman
Every child - with a mighty flash

Flash - a-ah
Flash - a-ah - he'll save everyone of us

Just a man
With a man's courage
He knows nothing but a man
But he can never fail
No one but the pure in heart
May find the golden grail
Oh oh - oh oh
