Anyone who follows my posts knows I'm very critical of the digital age, and the replacement of physical media. But I'll concede fair play that this is something that would only be possible in the digital age.

The Flaming Lips, an indie band, are releasing a single song lasting 6 hours in support of a humane society. Apparently they're releasing it with some sort of strobe machine too (shades of the famous dream machine developed by Bryon Gysin and William S. Burroughs).

And according to a press release, a 24-hour-long track is in the works.

Now the question is if the Lips are gonna take the plunge and do these tunes live!

I primarily agree with this statement. My actual expenditures on digital only copies has been under $20.

And I can't see the studios going for it, but if there was some sort of BD Audio format, they could probably still do a physical format release of this song. In 3D.

Oh fuck, a six hour song? I like their music, but that's just obnoxious. I could see a six hour House music track, but the Flaming Lips? Some of my favorite songs by them are in the two to four minute range.

I was going to say Godspeed You! Black Emperor is jealous and will now have to one-up them.
