First Screening for Paramount Brass

According to TrekMovie
One source tells TrekMovie that first cut showing was “a hit.” Another old studio hand who isn’t even working on the projects called the cut “very impressive.” And yet another source said that the reaction in the screening room was “far beyond expectations”
This even more great news!

Can't say that I've ever had much faith in some studio execs...

That's a reliably nebulous observation - at any given time I'm sure that there are "some studio execs" who are unreliable and "some other studio execs" who know what they're doing.

It's good news, if true, that the studio executives are enthusiastic about the movie because they're among the people who will decide how to promote, market and distribute the movie. If they'd been really disappointed or decided that the cut was in need of some "streamlining" or "creative reshaping" then it would be reasonable for fans to worry. A lot.

we're expecting them to say otherwise?

This isn't a press release from the studio, it's a sourced report. Plenty of bad news has come out this way on a variety of productions on other occasions.

In fact, now that they've started screening the thing for small groups of insiders we can expect to see more accurate "spy reports" about different aspects of the film popping up at places like AICN.

While I do see this as GREAT news, it's still only a scrap of information.

Personally, I think that the trailer will be attached with the Nov. 7th for Quantum of Solace.

I've been seriously thinking for a while that trekmovie.com is somehow directly connected to the production. Possibly a form of "viral marketing", and a way to "dole out information" to the public, just to keep up interested. Am I the only one thinking this?
Probably not the only one, no.

However, http://www.startrekmovie.com/ is the site with the direct connection (owned and operated by Paramount.) TrekMovie is, in fact, a site operated by someone known to be a member of this board, and I'm reasonably certain that he has no direct connection to the production.

^ PowderedToastMan, I believe. He's been a member of this board for years, as has FleetLord(?)

I hope the brass really loved it, even though "the effects aren't done" (JJ Abrams, quoted at Comic-Con, July 26, 2008).

(click for the truth)

The execs like it! I'm getting so excited right now that I'm going to make sure I have Depends on from now on before I check this board.

"The execs like it" I interpret as their thinking it will make money, based on recent trends, not necessarily that it's something that they or Trek fans would actually consider good.
