First peek at Xmas Idents

Too bad the picture on the blog isn't larger. I had to Tile it as my background image on the work PC.

The Doctor riding the Tardis with the reindeer makes me grin like an idiot every time I see it... and I think I've seen it about 12 times! The Doctor digging out his Tardis is a little disappointing because it's so short. Thanks for the heads up Timofnine.

I'd love a wallpaper-sized image of that pic above with the half-buried TARDIS. And as someone mentioned, that would be a great image for a Christmas card. :D

The digging video got my funny bone exactly because it was so short - you could almost hear him grumbling! But the main clip with the TARDIS-sleigh is a delight and I think perfectly sums up the Tennant era of the show. I'm glad these are being included on the DVD/Blu-Ray.

lets face it, it was either that or the BBC getting lots of e:mails asking for them to be.

This is true, though they'll probably get people requesting the Dreamland be included too (though they'll probably release that separately). I know that it didn't set the world on fire, but it's still David Tennant and, frankly, a recording of him reading cheese dip recipes would still sell in the UK. ;)

yes I would like to see a COMPLETE specials box set.

The Next Doctor
Planet of the Dead
Waters of Mars
The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith
Dreamland
End of Time Part 1
End of Time Part 2
Christmas BBC Idents
& possibly even Music of the Spheres.

Basically everything that happened to the Doctor since Journey's End

good to know, when the BBC aired it they aired as part of the preformance, not clean like it was online

That's the way it was released to DVD with The Next Doctor last spring. They trimmed the opening and closing credits (which was a shame because the closing credits used the original 1963 Derbyshire arrangement for the first time in 42 years) and it was just a part of the show, introduced as a "message from the Doctor" by Freema Agyeman. There's also a lot of cutting back and forth to the audience (which is OK because some of the action occurs out there). The version on the Internet was a "clean" version with no audience audio, so it's a rather surreal experience as DT pauses for responses. Some folks have taken the audio from the broadcast and overdubbed it, and it works a bit better. A neat bonus would be for them to include the "clean" version (just as the Series 3 set included the Blink Easter Egg and the Doctor's unedited message to Martha from Human Nature), but I'm not holding my breath. I'm just glad it's being included. (And with the BR release it means Music of the Spheres will probably be in high-def, too, for those who care).

Two more promos - obviously shot at the same time as the idents - have just been released by the BBC on it's YouTube channel. They feature Tennant, as the Doctor, wishing viewers a Merry Christmas (I like the joke in the second one).

No way of knowing if these are destined for the DVD/Blu-Ray set. The Doctor Who News Page reported that the 4 idents were cleared for release by the British film classification board, but there was no mention of these:

PS. I checked and the two clips should be viewable outside the UK.
