First misimpressions

When I was a kid, I thought the bridge was at the bottom of the saucer. I have no recollection for my reasoning, maybe because it was closer to the phaser banks?

I had something similar. I first became a Trekkie at age nine when my dad took me to see TSFS in the theatre when it first came out. It was over the next year or so that my dad would videotape TOS reruns on VHS, and that's how I finally built up my TV collection while I was waiting for the next movie to come out.

My only other exposure to Trek at the time was the Pocket Books novel series -- when the story had the characters going to the Bridge, I initially thought it was an actual, literal bridge like you see over a river.

For more years than I care to own up to (please don't ask) I thought those lovely objects at the back end of Federation starships were properly spelled warpness cells. Ah, the foolishness of youth...well only partially true!!

Could it be from DS9's "Emissary"? The Borg shoot the Saratoga's lower dome and the bridge explodes. Then someone says "direct hit, decks 1 through 4!"

^Just double checked. It looks like they targeted the top of the saucer, not the "lower dome".

Heh, this was the early 70s, then my mom got me the FJ blueprints at the mall around 1975 and: "Oooohhhh..."

I was 7 years old when I saw TMP in the theater. I was too young to understand a refit and thought they were getting a brand new Enterprise. Then I was 10 when I saw TWOK in the theater and thought they were getting yet another new Enterprise, since they re-used the same space dock footage.

That's the misheard song lyric aspect. For over 30 years, I thought Luca Brazzi in THE GODFATHER was Lew Cabrazzi. For 20 years, I thought Billy Idol was singing 'howzabout a date?' and not 'eyes without a face' (and it STILL sounds like that to me.)

For Trekmovies, when Kirk goes to Spock's cabin in TWOK, at one point he says 'I wouldn't presume to debate you.' It always sounded like 'I wouldn't have presumed after vger.'
Also, it has ALWAYS sounded like Kirk is telling Scotty "we need warp speed in THIRTY minutes or we'll all dead."

When I first saw The Motion Picture, where Ilia was killed, I assumed that V'Ger had brought her back and just put that glowy gem in her neck as a sign of ownership.

I'd originally assumed that Riley's reference to the bowling alley in "The Naked Time" was supposed to be facetious, until years later I learned that some took it literally via Franz Joseph's blueprints!
