First look at Sophie Turner As Lara Croft

Tomb Raider's Sophie Turner Says Her Lara Croft Is Not A "Sex Bombshell"
"I really want to show the other side. She's so unashamedly capable."

Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in the upcoming Prime Video Tomb Raider TV series, and now she's shared more details about her take on the character, saying she won't aim to be a "sex bombshell."

"It's about her and her story and what drives her, rather than what so many people also love about her, which is how hot she is in the games and the movies," Turner told the LA Times. "But I really want to show the other side. She's so unashamedly capable. She is not a woman who hides her strengths at all."

Also in the interview, Turner said her extensive physical training for Tomb Raider has allowed her to feel feel more confident taking her children on walks in London as a single mother.

"I now really feel like I could protect them," she said. "As a mum, I come up with scenarios in my head and I'm like, 'OK, if a man jumped out of here what would I do?' And it’s always like, 'I just pick the kids up and run.' But now it's changed. My instinct would be to deck him in the face."

Turner went on to say that she also trained for X-Men, but because her character, Jean Grey, had telekinetic power, she "didn't need to do much" in terms of physical preparation. For Tomb Raider, Turner said she's "never had to train for anything like this before."
"I didn't realize I could push my body that far. I feel like I've achieved something even before we've started shooting," she said.

The Tomb Raider TV series was created by Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge. It also stars Harry Potter's Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver. For more, check out the full cast so far in the gallery below.

The Tomb Raider game series will continue in 2026 with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and then Tomb Raider: Catalyst in 2027. The games are published by Amazon.

I think she looks fine as Lara Croft. I just wish they had done another movie with Alicia Vikander. She was good too.

I'd love to see Sophie do Aloy or even Rose Lee as her if they ever do a Horizon movie

Part of my issue is that even after watching both Game of Thrones and the later X-men films I don't have a good grasp on her acting style. Like, Lara Croft needs to be larger than life and that's not what I think of when I think Sophie Turner.

Always the weak link in GoT.

It did amuse me in Dark Phoenix that when it came time for Jean and Xavier to have an emotional moment in the movie's climax, they did it in some sort of telepathic realm and had the child actress from the flashback scenes fill in as Jean there.

This is the first time I’ve heard about this project (have never been a massive Tomb Raider fan, even though I have fond memories playing one of the early PC games), but I have to say, Phoebe Waller-Bridge being the creative mind behind this automatically makes me want to check it out. Fleabag was phenomenal, and the one season of Killing Eve she wrote and headed was outstanding as well. Sophie Turner looks rad in the part!
