BTW, has JacksonArcher heard from Andrew Mackay about how this worked out? Sounds from Twitter like he's probably out.

Judging from the Mister Darcy as dressed by Ghengis Khan then attacked by Martha Stewart with gold spray paint character to the left, I think we have a fairly good idea of how Trelane would have presented himself to a Klingon crew. As for the rest... we'll see.

I'm just going to believe they're a new species until official confirmation from CBS

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, my initial reaction is 3thumbs down, though arguably the look is within the range of variation seen in the Klingon species and the uniforms could Be Klingon Marines or a design unique to a particular great house

The fact that the photo is of the costumes and not actors would explain the slender look (and no legs on the one on the right). It also might explain the baldness. Applying hair prosthetics is more complicated (like a hair weave) these days. They can't just slap a wig on them or sew it into the mask like in the old days, so it would make sense that the hair would be applied after the actor dons the suit. I think the full view of the spine just means the hair will be on the sides only, not connecting in back. Also the costuming seems to suggest these are not regular Klingons. The gold one especially. Some new faction and focus of contention. Maybe they are the descendants of the Klingons that went with Kahless or something. Also potentially refugees. They might have evolved slightly different than alpha Klingons.

People freaked out about the early "test design" for the Discovery, and yet when it comes to something that is even more egregious design-wise with these "Klingons", the response from people is passive acceptance. That strikes me as more than a little bit 'off'.

Even if it is the same people there's nothing off about reacting differently to two completely different things.

That's just your opinion, obviously some people will disagree.

Does anyone know how fans reacted to the new Klingon look in TMP back in 1979..? Or the Romulan ridges in TNG in 1988? ST has changed the look of prominent alien races throughout its history, so it's really no surprise here. Besides, I love this new look, if they are indeed Klingons..!

Now if the series is set before the destruction of Vulcan, and if it avoids any mentions of stuff specific to ST09, there wouldn't actually be anything to pin it to a specific universe.

Actually the person who took the photo might of been mistaken about the aliens in this picture being "Klingons". We have to wait for the official word before we pull out the pitch----I mean calmly debate this decision. :D

    Honestly people.....

What's with this 'it MUST be explained', or 'there better be a backstory about this'? FFS, we haven't even had confirmation these ARE Klingons. And even if they are, deal with it.

So what if they changed the looks of some aliens? That happened so effing often during Star Trek. Hell, even Quark's nose was different in the beginning of Deep Space Nine!! Did you all cry out about that as well? Did you NEED or DESERVE an explanation about that as well? You learned to live with the changes back then, you'll do the same here as well.

Besides, if you don't like the look of it, don't watch the show. Nobody's forcing you, you know??

It's kind of good that this got leaked. People can get a head-start on the bitching, and will either be pleasantly surprised if these aren't Klingons, or hopefully all tuckered out and resigned to it if they are. :)

I'm still waiting on an excuse for Dax's spots changing all the time. Damn things were all over the place. ;)
