First Federation

How about it? Is it an alternate reality or are we the alternate reality or was it real? Did Humanity move out into the stars once before in a mass exodus long long ago? Was Balok a Preserver child? coming back to see and test it's children?

The First federation isn't connected with the UFP...

How do you know that?

Because it was an alien society that the Federation had clearly not encountered in "The Corbomite Maneuver."

The fact that they happen to have in their name a word translated as "Federation" doesn't imply a connection to the United Federation of Planets. The Republic of South Africa isn't connect to la República de Chile just because la República de Chile happens to have a word in its name that translates as "Republic."

Did Mccoy scan Balok, and if not, why not? They just left Bailey with this alien that nobody knows nothing about. So long Bailey. Also was there more than one exact duplicate of Earth on TOS?

The "duplicate Earth" thing was dealt with in the second Shatnerverse trilogy. I loved it.

Outside of "The Corbomite Maneuver", the only First Federation sighting I can think of was among the rebellion fleet in the fan film "Of Gods and Men"

I asked Marco back in 2007 whether they'd be open to pitches about the First Federation, and he said no, he already had plans for a story about that. Obviously, change of editorship and whatnot meant they never happened, whatever they were...

I'd totally forgotten about that.

Right. A federation (or confederation) is simply a union of self-governing states united by a federal government. It's as generic a term as "union" or "republic" or "empire." The United States is a federation, as are other nations such as Mexico, Australia, Russia, Germany, etc.

And of course, at the time "The Corbomite Maneuver" was written, the name "United Federation of Planets" hadn't been thought up yet. As far as its writer knew, the Enterprise was simply an Earth ship. So there was no conflict in using the name "First Federation" for an unrelated alien civilization. (I don't think the Federation was mentioned until "Arena," and "United Federation of Planets" wasn't used until "A Taste of Armageddon.")

And the story he was referring to was mine. Hopefully I'll still get to do it in some form at some future date.

And we can't wait, Christopher!!

You may well - I *should* think "oh, a race!" and pitch something now, but I can't remember anything of the idea I was hoping to pitch at the time, having obviously decided not to think any more of it...

Hah, I've never thought about it that way:

Bailey: What now?

Balok: My people are much like yours, we travel the universe looking for races to have sexual congress with.

Bailey: No.. we travel the universe looking for people to share friendly relations with.

Balok: Yes, as I say, now put this ceremonial gimp mask on

Baily: Oh great... thanks a bunch Kirk!

I like the Federation sharing a name with another group - we have plenty of Empires and whatnot, why can't there be another group that seeks out new races for peaceful coexistence?

I noticed references to the First Federation in the DTI book. I was very intrigued. Always interested in interstellar politics. I wish the Carnelian Regnancy would also come up more often.

Delegates of the First Federation appear in TNG: Gulliver's Fugitives. The corpse of Mirror Balok appears in the Shatnerverse.

I always thought it would be interesting if Earth experienced a mass exodus way back when - a schism like the Vulcans, two different incompatable philosophies and factions or just the select smarter ones if you will, left and we blew ourselves up and started again Like that Twilight Zone episode, Earth One, over and out, or whatever. Maybe we were once a highly advanced civilization that moved out into the stars but just left some behind, etc. to start again or what have you.

^Yeah, sometime after the dinosaurs went off to the Delta Quadrant, Man evolved... there was a schism event, one side left, the other side(s) blew themselves to hell, the remnants started over.

Of course, something similar already happened with both the Neyel Hegemony & The Borg.

I was thinking more of us being a divergant alternate reality that branched off from it yet being the same except there is no record of the crew, etc. and the specifics are different.
