First cut of steel kicks off construction of the aircraft carrier Enterprise (CVN-80)

Just an aside. I wonder why no one ever thought to have camoflage look like a superior mirage of a different kind of vessel...I've seen dazzle camo...
They have, both to look like a weaker ship like a merchant vessel (Q-ship), or to make a military dummy look like the real thing. Although I can't say I've heard of an armed ship pretending to be a bigger armed ship, seems like that would be counterproductive, since it would tend to draw more fire than it can handle.

Or intimidate enemies/confuse tactical estimates?

I've absolutely no background in naval warfare beyond throwing inflatable toys in swimming pools so might be pulling this out of my ass but isn't misinformation about your capabilities always going to be a useful tool?
 
See nuBSG and the rescue on New Caprica. They sent all those drones in to make the enemy think there were Battlestars somewhere they weren't, which drew their forces away from the planet.
