Cutting to the chase...

Well, they certainly had a different idea of what the Iron Horse's commander looks like than I did.

(I always envisioned him as a grizzled old cowboy type. Played, of course, by Vaughn Armstrong, my favorite actor of all time.)

Yes, Kroh was written to be a bit older, perhaps 60. As the project matured his age slipped to about 42. The era has plenty of cowboy diplomacy, so I felt Kroh must be able to keep up in the field, believably, and take those roundhouse punches with the best of 'em.

I'm a tad puzzled by these previews. Do these represent the style of the actual piece?

Yes, the FB slideshows are stills grabbed straight from the movie / comic. The trailer itself is the opener, a twist on the classic "voyages" monologue.

I'm tied on what to call this, a movie or a motion comic? Digital comics usually give the reader a bit of control, whereas this plays like a short film with digital comic stylings. (layered 2D parallax, text bubbles, etc)

You be the judge, I'm wrapping the final chapter edits today, and getting it all put together ASAP!

Congrats on finishing that.

I have to comment though that some of your text boxes appear for too short a time. I could not read some of them in the time they were displayed, and had to rewind a number of times to catch what was being said.

Hey thanks M!

Zoom! The dialogue moves at a rocket pace largely to keep the film under 15 min. I'm also hoping the pace will encourage multiple views and freeze-frames to spot small details and easter eggs.

Scenes were cut short for time as well. Steel adventuring through the city was cut the most, and his epilogue about the village of Brawn was cut down. But no biggie.

I would love to hear how this concept is sitting with the core Trek audience!

If I may be honest there was a fair amount of unnecessary "procedural" text that you could have cut out in favor of giving the important stuff room to breathe. For instance, you could fairly easily tighten up the dialog with Belle at the start, and you don't need stuff like the "open a channel" "channel open, sir" when you could just show him pushing a button and lose two dialog boxes. That's the trick to making a short that fits comfortably in a fixed time limit: you pare away anything that isn't necessary.

That was ... interesting. Fascinating, even, and yet rather bizarre. I can’t remember the last time I watched anything so abstract. Not even Heavy Metal or Yellow Submarine came close. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, so I can’t say whether I liked it or not. However, I do appreciate the artistry and imagination it took to make it, and for that I applaud you.
