First Comic Book Featuring Superman Sells for $317,200

I have a reprint of the issue, perfect in every detail save for newer pages that are not newsprint. They kept the old ads and the other stories. One of the other stories is about Zantana the magician (the father of another DC female magician). Anyway I found it interesting that he's going after a young female crimelord who is pretty ruthless. At three or four different points in a story of a half a dozen pages she physically beats him up and gets the upper hand on him.

It's a good story, despite how strange that is

I agree seems low.
I could've sworn sometime in the last 10yrs that Detctive 27(first Batman) sold for north of $500K.

You'd think Supes, even in this economy, would still get that type $$$.

I am not ''totally'' suprised, Superman althou the first of the modern superhero, is rather ''bland'' compared to the likes of Spider-man, batman, wolverine & so on! Even if I was ''richer'' then the likes of, Buffet, Gates, Murdoch, Sorros, & Picken's combined! I would not bother with ''Action Comics#1 Even if it was CGC, PGX graded 9.8! I still would not bother.

^ just guess work on my part but anything lower than 750,000 seems low to me, hell 1,000,000 wouldn't surprise me that much

We know who bought it now (Yahoo released the name despite it being a private auction):

John Dolmayan from System of a Down

The article above suggests he bought it on behalf of another. Seems weird that the drummer of System of a Down is a rare comic book dealer but...

I have a reprint of the issue...

Is this reprint still commercially available?

I'll check for you, I'm not sure. I got it at a consignment shop. there was nothing on it that even it said it was a reprint. It has Supes driving the car into the cliff, with the June 1938 at the top. It was obviously a reprint, as the paper inside had a sheen and texture to it. I asked my local comic shop about it, and they said it it was promotion done some years back, but I can't remember what else he said.

Probably a sign of the economic times, because that amount seems really low it me, as well. It also shows that comic books just aren't good "investments" at all - this book is probably one of those that will fetch the most at auction, and it still couldn't break $500,00.

I remember a few years ago when people were running out snapping up comic books thinking they were going to pay for their kids college education!
