Similar to the MPAA of the United States, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rates movies and home media releases for audiences in the UK, including ratings for the Value Added Material (VAM) – aka bonus features – that accompanies DVD and Blu-ray releases in that region.

While there’s no mention of any audio commentary track, the BBFC have rated two discs worth of VAM for the upcoming release. (Note: this list remains unconfirmed and subject to change until Paramount makes their official release announcem

Here's hoping they don't do the disappointing thing they did with Into Darkness, splitting VAM off to retail-exclusive editions.

The Franklin model edition I pre-ordered just said "multiple discs" without details, I think this is probably whats going to be on there.

After the backlash and mea culpa Compendium, I doubt it. That said, there will likely be some retailer exclusive content. Just not split up over several retailers.

I'm torn on whether I should get a steelbook (presumably Best Buy would do that), or an edition that includes little ships.

Did you buy the little ships in the theatre? The ones in the blue rays look to be the same models. Although you also get a free tote bag if you pre-order the ships, if that's the kind of thing you're into.

I didn't get the miniatures in the theater.

I am leaning more toward the Steelbook, though. I like how they look on my shelf.
I just confirmed that Best Buy will be doing this in the US: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/star-tr...k-only--best-buy-2016/5450018.p?skuId=5450018

Edit: Here's a Trekcore article from a couple months ago on the different versions that will be available.

Hmm... that Franklin gift set looks pretty cool.

They were never available at all in US theaters, just Canada and Europe.

...OK. Not quite sure what you're getting at here.... Are you saying if they had sold them in the US there wouldn't have been leftovers to put in the special edition?

If so, I'm not claiming that they dumped the leftovers into the special edition, I'm wondering if that's what happened.

Sorry, was just clarifying things rather than responding specifically to your post. However, the special edition was announced pretty quickly after the movie's release, so I'd say Walmart managed to win using the molds as the incentive for their store exclusive, which is why they weren't made available to US theaters.

Hopefully people voted with their wallets.

I really liked the film, but refused to buy it until the Compendium.

I have the impression Beyond is doing the same thing as 2009 - discs have the same content, retailer exclusives are the knickknacks that comes with the disc. Although, still haven't seen Target's yet, they're the retailer that tends to get an extra disc of special features.

I've only recently updated to the Compendium edition as I've finally got a bit of spare cash. :)

I am annoyed it took that long to get what should've been on the original release all along.

I bought the regular Blu-ray on release day, enjoyed the Hell out of it. Gave it to my daughter and got the Compendium when it came out. Worked out for me, and cost about $40 total. A bargain compared to a lot of the stuff I buy. :techman:

I'd pre-ordered the Amazon version, but I'd like the bonus disc that comes with the Target version. Looks like I may be double-dipping; although, I'd bet that QMx sells the Franklin model separately down the line. (That steelbook is awful tempting, too...)

I'm not a steelbook fan but I loved that retro TMP-inspired artwork. Hope it (or a regular blu-ray with the same artwork) comes out in the UK.
