Ever wish that video or film used higher frame rates so that we wouldn't get this motion blur from frame to frame? Something like 60 fps would probably correct that and still maintain the ability to have blur when needed. With newer HDTVs that can now do 120Hz refresh rates, I don't see why 60 fps wouldn't be possible.

I don't think it's a phaser, I think it's a Klingon Disruptor. Just look at the barrel, identical to Klingon disruptor. Only the grip and receiver are different, but definitely got Klingon lineage.

You're right BlueRaja. In the JJ commentary on the 4 scenes first showed in England he states Kirk loses his weapon and has to, (paraphrased) pick up an alien weapon.

It's possible, maybe, but I'm not sure why you would - past 30 fps, the human eye can't tell the difference.

I will be amazed if we don't see a nerve pinch at some stage in the film... maybe Nimoy gets to do it?

I think the disruptor that Kirk is using is actually Romulan. The scene where kirk is on the drill, when he loses his weapon, he picks up another, which is most likely Romulan, being that he's fighting Romulans, on a Romulan drill.
