First Action Figure image released

I have to agree with the "Mego" comments. My first thought upon looking at it was "It's a riff on Mego". I know the fabric clothes look has its fans, and I won't bash the figure based on one (side turned) image. However, I think I can definitively say that the sweater just looks too bulky. Nice to get a look at the Phaser however.

I also agree that I'm looking forward to the 3" figures more, and of course the ships.

Wow....what a turd. Makes me happy I've stopped collecting in that scale. Not that I would have any temptation to pick up that piece of garbage either way.

I'm glad this thread is here. I'd wanted to get the figures.

Now I don't.

That deal with the deltas on the pullover is stupid. They're nowhere near that big on the movie uniform. That's what makes it look so wrong. At the scale the figure's done at, the deltas should be invisible, except for the actual badge.

They wrecked it.

This is as stupid as Playmates doing Riker with his clothes all torn up because he was 'a good fighter'.

I am glad to get a look (sort of) at the phaser, tho'. While not identical, it sure looks a lot more like the TOS version than we'd been led to believe.

Does anyone's collection of all these toys actually appreciate in value?

I have boxes full of the old playmate crap in my basement, still in the original packaging. they've been rotting down there for years in the hopes that one day they might actually be worth retail value again so I can unload them. I swear if I needed the space, they'd be on the curb in a heartbeat. for now though, they can just sit there as a reminder of what the fuck was I thinking.

I was at a convention in Virginia where Michael Dorn appeared in 1988. Some friends and I get into the elevator, and there's a small boy and his parents already there; the little boy wants his dad to give him the "Worf" Galoob action figure that he'd bought in the dealer's room.

The dad says no, the boy got Dorn to sign it, so now it's valuable and must remain in the packaging.

You can imagine how the child reacted.

I think of that jerk pf a "parent" often when I read some of the more obsessive fannish rants online...

The phaser looks like someone melted the back end. Now that's an update we can believe in.

What isn't ugly in this movie?

I think the 3 3/4 inch figures will be more exciting, since they will have the bridge and transporter playsets and they will be in scale with star wars and gi joes.

Thank you for this. I was just going to rant how absolutely stupid it was for Paramount to give the license to Playmates when it is clearly obvious (and made pictorially so thanks to this comparison) that Art Asylum not only produces superior work, but they make other inferior work look even worse (if that is possible) in comparison.

That side-by-side just makes me wish Art Asylum had the license, and not Playmates. Oh well. At least they're still producing Trek figures, and good ones.
