Firefox 3 - Shiny...

USS KG5

Hi All,

Just downloaded this little baby, using it now - I like it. Had a look at one of the betas and was not massively impressed but the release is a big improvement.

So far I've noticed better rendering, more speed, a prettier interface and the ugly bookmarks toolbar is still ugly, but a bit less ugly.

Anyone else running the new version yet? It goes on my work laptop tomorrow!

Oh, it's always welcome in these here parts. :)

I leave it up to the Misc mods to move the thread if they deem it wrong for their forum, though.

Anyone else like the new smaller address bar? I is nice in an era of programs like Office 2007 (load it up on a screen of 1024 x 768 and the screen is 50% toolbar by default) to see icons getting smaller and less annoying.

I've been using it since "Download Day" and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I especially like how when you type an address it shows you the site icon, as well as the site name, and URL all in the same moment. Very handy, and I find I can find sites faster that way.

You tried a full uninstall/reinstall? I seem to remember having that problem with an older version when I upgraded.

That said - has anyone come across a truly reliable way of copying about firefox bookmarks? I find the implementation of these in Firefox in terms of how they are stored very inferior to IE.

I haven't been able to get it work either. I've tried un-installing and re-installing several times but it doesn't work, every time all I get is the crash reporter thing. Firefox 2 works fine, but 3 does not.

The OSX version hasn't exactly been pleasant to work with. It was 100 times slower than Safari on my Macbook.

I just uninstalled it in favor of FF2. Two different PCs, both running FF3 and it's awful, soaks up memory, is slow, unstable and caused major issues. No matter how many times I uninstall, delete all the leftover garbage files, restart and reinstall it, it runs poorly.

I'm sticking with FF2 for as long as I can.

J.

I love FF3.
It's faster and has finaly solved the memory problems I used to have with all versions of FF2.:bolian:

I ended up doing a clean install of FF3 because of problems with a vista update messing up my computer. I had previously tried it but went back to FF2 because I was having problems with FF3 not going to the first unread post in a thread.

Turns out the problem was caused by the add on greasemonkey, rather than FF3

Odd. I've had no problems with FF3 on either WinXP or Win2000 (at the office), and I'm running the latest version of Greasemonkey on both. cubbie, are you sure you had version v0.8.20080609.0? (Emphasis one the penultimate four numbers mine).

Hi turbo. I thought the problem was due to grease monkey, but it wasn't. It's some problem that is probably a combination of addons. It would work only temporarily. I even uninstalled all of my addons, but still couldn't find which one was the cause.

In the end, I too, went back to FF2 again. I get to use all of the same addons, too.

The only problem I've had so far was a few weeks ago when anything script-related here at TBBS simply stopped working. Every other site I went to - including a couple of other vBulletin boards - worked fine. So I uninstalled FF3, wiped out my profile, and reinstalled, and everything's worked fine since. I assume an add-on update frelled with something unique to this board, but I can't say for sure.

At this stage there are three or four (non-essential, but nifty) add-ons I'm awaiting updates for. Other than that, I have no complaints about FF3.
