Fired From a Bank Job For Being Too Sexy?!?

JRS

Acording to Dehbrahlee Lorenanza, she was fired from her bank job on the grounds of being "too sexy":
http://www.villagevoice.com/2010-06-01/news/is-this-woman-too-hot-to-work-in-a-bank/

I found the whole thing stupid..and very odd:eek:.
One would think that good looks would be more of an asset in a job like she does..I guess I was wrong:confused:
From what I read from the article, her co-workers seem overtly jealous. I find it very odd that some guys could not "handle" her looks.
I guess those people never saw a pretty woman in their workplace before:rolleyes:
I guess this is an exsample of how superficial the todays world can be like, even on the workplace.

What do you all think about this:shifty::):shifty:?

Her treatment sounds very odd, even aside from the "fired for being too sexy" thing. The whole deal with her bringing in lots of business but being unable to get credit for it is really strange. It sounds like one of those "constructive termination" situations, where the employers want to get rid of someone without firing them outright. But she didn't bite, so they fired her, citing "performance."

Since it will have to be mediated in arbitration, she probably won't walk away with much.

I saw this last week.

To me, it sounds like the men were using her, and, once it was clear she wasn't ditzy enough to not fight back for her money, they started to find anything they could to get her out of there.

It's the same song-and-dance successful women have been dealing with since we started climbing the corporate ladder, and, frankly, this whole thing just reeks to me.

Great, now I'm gonna have Right Said Fred in my head all day....

And to me, her bosses - male and female - were using her. They took the word of her female colleagues who, it seems, complained about her. She probably didn't help matters by taking photos of how they were dressed either. There's one of them, who claims to be her 'friend' commenting on it a few paragraphs in to the article.

Then they jumped to the conclusion that she was distracting her male colleagues. She might have been, but that doesn't mean they were treating her any differently.

So, to me, CitiBank have two problems. First, this issue, and second the issue of them not trusting their male employees and making unjustified assumptions about their behaviour.

She most certainly should not have lost her job, it should be the people in the HR department that operate a ridiculously overzealous sexual harassment policy that get the chop.

I do not see how treating your employees like untrustworthy children helps this woman or her colleagues. How are they supposed to treat any woman equally when they're scared to be alone in a meeting room with one thanks to their HR department?

If their HR department had taken any action at all when she first started complaining, it wouldn't have escalated like this at all. Further, if HR or any of TPTB had allowed her the proper training classes she needed to actually make money instead of handing her clients off to others in the office, this situation wouldn't have happened.

But the bosses used her to get themselves and their other people more money by sending her out to sell and not letting her reap the rewards.

Everyone knows (study after study shows) that pretty people sell better than ugly ones. She was perfect for the job. It's when they realized she wasn't stupid to go along with being attractive that the problems started, IMHO.

PS, I am not one of those over zealous 'girl power' types. This particular situation, specifically, gets my heckles up.

^Agreed on all points.

Sadly, HR departments aren't there to look after employees, they're there to protect the company from its employees. So, they cynically believe that a few guys thinking she's hot equates to them being distracted.

Since I'm an HR Manager, I probably should take offense to that.

However, in this case, I completely agree with you regarding CitiBank's HR Department.

^Sorry, but that has been my experience with HR. I have never seen an instance of a Human Resources department taking an employee's side over that of the company.

I'm sorry if you take that personally, it's not intended that way.

Well, she definitely is hot. I'm not sure if that's why she was fired, but CitiBank seems to be acting suspicious here. The arbitration thing means it's likely she won't win (or, if she does, won't win much). I can't stand mandatory arbitration as a condition of employment. That should be against public interest, imo.

Well, it's not like you've ever worked with me, but I'm known as an advocate for the employees.

So, no offense taken. I know that's how the vast majority work. ;)

First.. she's one grade A babe.

That said i'm not surprised how this turned out. Being as hot as she is it is inevitable that men will hit on her (never dip in the company inkwell my ass!) and women will become jealous as attention slips from them to her.

I've seen this at my workplace and we don't have women nearly as attractive as her (i think my warehouse would explode if we got someone like her ).

Yes, being that attractive can be a curse if your superiors and colleagues only see your body and not your work performance. I con't agree with her firing but i can understand the reasoning as sad as it may be. Small part in the back of my head also claims that a superior may have hit on her and got turned down hard and this may be revenge... who knows.

However i doubt she'll be unemployed for long.

I don't know I don't think she's that attractive. Pretty, yes, but there's a girl at my bank who is easily as attractive. I'm not sure what to make of this story at all because of this.

I heartily approve of the no fewer than twenty-six sexily posed photos helpfully provided so we can decide.

My favourites:

That last one is particularly -worthy.

Seems to me that Citibank did her a huge favor. You know how many opportunities she's going to have after all this?
