Finding Nemo 2 Confirmed

There's been talk this year of a Finding Nemo 2 in the works but now it's been confirmed.

"Finding Nemo 2" would follow the "Toy Story" sequels, "Cars 2" and the upcoming prequel to "Monsters Inc." on the Pixar slate, but that doesn't mean the animation giant is shying away from the original films that helped make its name. Earlier this year, Pixar announced release dates for "Dia De Los Muertos" (from "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich), "The Good Dinosaur" (from "Up" co-director Bob Peterson) and a feature going under the working title of "Untitled Pixar Movie that Takes You Inside the Mind" (from "Up" director Pete Docter). Those three films are set for release in 2014 and 2015.

"I’m sure you’ll see some other sequels of things as they grow because now we are not so blinded," Stanton was quoted as saying at the Hero Complex Film Festival. "It’s the originals that keep us really going and it’s the sequels that are like comfort food, and I think it’s the same way for the audience."
I don't know if I like thisor not. On the one hand, the Toy Story series got progressively better, but on the other hand, Cars 2 was Pixar's first crappy movie (say what you will about Cars, but it was at least enjoyable). I'm looking forward to Monster University but I don't think a prequel is necessary. The ONE Pixar film I do want a sequel for is the least likely because the director doesn't want to do one: The Incredibles.

I'm not sure i like this trend.

Part of the charm of Pixar movies are their uniqueness both in story and design and i fear this will get diluted by sequels. I feel that the story of the Pixar movie is told once the end credits roll and there's no need for a sequel just because it's a popular movie.

What would the theme be for Nemo 2? The main characters have finished their arcs and all i can come up with is a generic, bland adventure story with the same characters.

I'm not really interested in that (and i really need to find the time to see the Toy Story movies!).

I was never a fan of the Toy Story movies. Hated Ratatouille and Up. The Incredibles was ok but nothing great. Cars 2 wasn't bad but it was such a departure from the first movie (and it featured two characters who actually died) I felt it wasn't in the right mould.

Finding Nemo was great but I can't see it being able to carry a sequel.

Can't wait for Monsters Uni. The first one is my favourite Pixar movie.

I loved Finding Nemo - it's probably my favorite Pixar film of all time. I am totally stoked for a sequel.

That is, if Ellen D and Albert B are back. If not, forget it. :p

I have to say, I don't like this trend at all, but pre-sold animated properties like these are easy money for Hollywood studios. I'm not sure I can name the last one that failed, other than Happy Feet Two, which still grossed $150 million worldwide. It's no surprise that Pixar is moving in this direction; animated sequels are as near a a sure thing as Hollywood has right now.

I don't think Bird said he'd never want to do one, just that he wouldn't unless he had the right story. Which was also the thinking behind the Toy Story sequels, and we ended up getting two of those.

Functionally the same thing, for the time being. Particularly since Bird's move into live action was a big success.

I do find Pixar's sudden sequelmania a bit disconcerting. A sequel here and there? Sure, I can see that, especially for their huge hits like Toy Story. But all these sequels make me think Pixar is starting to lose steam or is being pressured by Disney to churn out cookie-cutter crap to rake in the big bucks without regard to quality.

I'd agree, but the next few years will actually be a bit of a break from sequels, Monsters University notwithstanding. After all, we're going to have three original movies between Monsters and Finding Nemo 2, apparently. That's not a bad spacing.

It's just that we're in a time now when three of four Pixar released in a row are sequels. Hopefully several original stories in a row will mean less sequel burn-out...and get the taste of Cars 2 out of people's mouths.

The Finding Nemo 3D rerelease in theaters later this year is now making WAY more sense. :rommie:

Yeah, they do definitely seem to be making more sequels ever since being bought by Disney. Who can really blame them though when the originals were such money makers. As others pointed out, where they excel is in creating original stories. Toy Story was the exception until recently when they started making sequels to some of the others. I saw Cars 2 as nothing more than a vehicle (sorry about the pun) to sell more toys, and those toys are rather expensive. I wonder how Brave is doing?

It sounds like the current executives are willing to run the Pixar brand into the ground for some short-term gain.

Well, Finding Nemo was awesome so hopefully this will be at the same standard. It'll be interesting to see what the story will be, hopefully it won't be a re-tread of the first one.

I can't see any way this lives up to the original.

I also can't believe they can't find a good story for Incredibles 2, seems like it would be the easiest.

This seems like a horrible idea, but I did love the first one.

Cars 2 is much, MUCH better that Cars so I have some hope.

They'll make the grown up Nemo have a daughter that gets lost in order make the sequel different from the first movie. :rommie:

Um...didn't Nemo get found in the last one? A sequel to this just seems silly.

Well, it probably won't actually be called Finding Nemo 2 -- that's just a placeholder description. I'm sure it'll be some other title that has "Nemo" in it, as with Monsters University as the prequel to Monsters, Inc.
