I'm actually hoping so.
Much like the Klingons (Tyler and L'Rell), I'm glad Michelle Yeoh is back...but S2 seems pretty dense with ideas already...so I hope those two elements are very minor in S2 to make way for the new arc and for Spock / Pike.
Darvin read a Klingon, ten years after Ash.Voq. Ten years after Sarfleet had his scans and knew what to look for. Ash/Voq story-line does not work with human looking arguments. Voq by the silly retcon would look totally human as an argument.
True enough.
It would be kind of cool if each of the "red signals" they investigate has its own little mini-arc. Maybe one could involve S31for an episode or two.

Discussion is never unwelcome, just that it's understood these are my opinions, and I'm not presenting them as either fact or any kind of demand on the show itself. I just have ideas of what I want to see, and am disappointed if the show heads off in a wildly different direction, because it's likely fewer episodes of the new series I'll be watching as a result. It happened to VOY, happened to ENT. I ended up rewatching them years later, and my estimation of them did go up, but they're still dead last compared to TOS/TNG/DS9 for me.
Minor, I can live with. Maybe wrapping up a thread or two, something like that, just not a consistent running theme for the series. I didn't like S31 when it showed up in DS9, either, for what it's worth.
*crosses fingers, toes, other anatomy*
I have nothing against Michelle Yeoh, I'd have loved to see more of her as prime Georgiou. I'm just not an MU or S31 guy.
Maybe they’ll throw us for a loop, and just have a season composed of self-contained double/triple episodes ala Enterprise, Veronica Mars, Doctor Who etc. We’d never see it coming!
Not that I’m advocating for that, mind. The change in format didn’t exactly help any of those shows.
Oh, well then. I suppose being ‘an opinion’ makes it immune from comment or extrapolation on its content, implications, intent, etc.
Because ‘opinions’ are totally different things from every other post on this website. Or 99.8% of internet content. They’re special.
Well, several points here to agree with
1. I also rank VOY and ENT lowest, and I also (like you) found them more enjoyable recently when I finally gave them a full watch/rewatch (I didn't watch either full series in first run). Sometimes I wonder if separation from the "in the moment" expectations makes the heart grow fonder.
2. I also find Section 31 to be a blah concept in Trek. I can't figure out why they keep trying to grow that particular part of the lore. I love Michelle Yeoh, so I'm grateful they found a way to get her back, but....
3. I dig Prime Georgiou
He might look "human" but he would not work as ASH or any other *identical* existing officer to infiltrate by taking their identity. Augments have nothing to do with what they did to Voq. An augmented/human looking Voq could have... gotten minor access as a refuge, perhaps. Star Fleet knows what an augment scans as, as well. An augment Voq would never have gotten past his first medical scan after they recovered him.

That might be part of it. Being a little older, having a slightly different frame of mind from when they first aired, and yeah, seeing the whole series together and not having to wait a week for the next piece of the puzzle to fall in place only for it to turn out to be "Shades of Grey" *grumble*, that helps put a new spin on things.
Yep, and the black pants, black badges don't do anything for me either. It just feels like it's trying too hard. When DS9 was at its best, you didn't need to be told who the bad guys were, you just knew from the way they behaved. S31 didn't scare me. Gul Dukat? Scared me, because he seemed perfectly normal until he wasn't, and then that mask was back in place and you only had the ghost of an impression of what was actually under that mask. A man sitting in a chair in tight black leather only makes me think I showed up to a Sprockets taping.
Yes, I do too. The few moments in the first two episodes that I did enjoy all have to do with the relationship between Burnham and Georgiou. I could have watched that play out over the whole first season. I was thrilled that finally we have two competent, capable women in charge of a starship! We get to see the much vaunted values of our future finally at work.
I just got the Blu-Ray. Aside from the first 45 minutes of the first episode, I never saw anything of Discovery, and I’m still only part-way through “Drastic Measures”.
I’ve got through to ‘Magic To Make The Sanest Man Go Mad” and I’m finding the show rather generic sci-fi with a “Star Trek” label on it. (MTMTSMGM is a rip-off of TNG’s “Cause and Effect” and Mudd is not Mudd, just a poor knock-off)
Also I’m not to impressed with the language, The older Star Trek’s were able to have dramatic sequences without dropping to the low levels of language with f-bombs.
But I’m also finding the story isn’t as deep as the older Trek’s. It’s almost like it’s been “dumbed-down” compared and is more about what the CGI can do to advance the plot than complimenting the story (something that I found Enterprise was guilty of). The older Treks managed to have compelling stories without tons of SFX unless it was needed.
Plus Lorca’s office keeps reminding me of Sisko’s office on DS9.
Plus why is the bridge so big when compared to the 1701 Enterprise? The Enterprise bridge has Pike and Kirk’s knees almost touching the helm/navy chairs, but you could have a bowling alley on the Discovery bridge!
And the Klingons must be buying their costumes from the same tailor that made G’Kar’s coat on “Babylon 5”. But with the Klingons they are not coming across as ferocious as they should be.
And Michael Burnham, while the Sarek angle is interesting, she’s just not an interesting leading character.

Yeah...that might have been it. I know I found ENT moderately interesting. I'm actually still struggling to get through VOY. It's just kind of the "junk food" of the franchise, I like it, but not too often.

You know, I remember thinking when she was killed off (besides being tremendously disappointed) that she may continue to appear in flashbacks that show how her and Michael's relationship progressed, much like we see in "Battle at the Binary Stars" but it never materialized. I think that was a missed opportunity.
Yeah it does have something to do with it. They would have been looking for a human looking klingon, they did not even suggest such a thing, it shocked them. They did not detect Voq as Klingon at all, nor even scan for it, because they did not act like it was a possibility.
The point remins, DSC acts like there is no such thing as a Human looking Klingon.

I usually stop watching when I sigh really loudly at some point in the episode. That's my brain's way of saying "yeah, we're done with this episode."
I was hoping we'd see more of that, too. I figured "well, at least we'll get her in flashbacks!"
Why would they scan for it, when they already did a complete medical scan after his recovery from "incarceration and torture" ? He clearly scanned as human. Augments would have their own specific bio scans that would already be known and accounted for, and he would have scanned negative.

I'm sure the DSC Enterprise will have a bridge that puts Discovery's to shame.
I hope the DSC Enterprise bridge looks like the bridge of the USS Cygnus from "The Black Hole".
That's what a bridge is supposed to look like! Accept no substitutes.
DSC actually sucks because the bridges aren't that big. They should at least make them as big as the bridge in BSG:TOS. At least that would elevate them above mediocrity.
Bigger bridges or I riot.
