the others would have been out in 30 yrs right. I wondered how the others would've reacted when they found eli corpse. who would've been first to come out any way?

No, if all went/goes/would have gone/will go according to plan, they should come out in 3 years, not 30 years.

Their reaction? Shock and grief I would guess. Plus appreciation of the sacrifice he made for them.

I just spent all day having an SGU marathon on Netflix. They have every episode on Instant Watch except for "Gauntlet!" Now I'm left with just one episode left, and I can't watch it. Booooooooo!

I gave it an 8.

Perhaps due to timing, this episode was a horrible finale. Fine episode, but not a series--no, franchise--finale. I'm just going to assume that they writers and producers were working under the assumption that there'd be a third season, and they were handcuffed with what they could give us.

Incidentally, I thought Epilogue was a real strong episode, and the series could have ended there and I would have been happier.

Just as the show stared to get good and had me hooked, it gets canned. It's a shame they couldn't get off the ground faster.

Well, yeah. It was never intended to be a series finale.

I thought it was a great episode, though, and it really bummed me out when it ended. I finally started to really enjoy the show!

Other than Eli not even mentioning The Chair or his hot-ass ghost in the machine girlfriend, it was a pretty good way to end things, I guess.

I've always liked this show and would have stuck around to watch another season. Oh, well.

Guess I'm off to Netflix to continue my Babylon 5 series marathon. I never watched more than a handful of episodes, but once you get past the cheese, it's pretty enjoyable. I just started Season 3 and the special effects have thankfully gotten better than PS1 cutscenes, at last.

Good episode. The goodbyes were especially meaningful - far, far moreso than if this were just a season finale.

The last scene, with Rush and Young getting into the last two pods, the music, Destiny powering down and Eli left all alone was amazingly done.

I'll miss you, SGU. And the Stargate franchise, an episode of which I never ever missed. From "Children of the Gods" all the way to "Gauntlet" - what a ride it was! (with the exception of SGU's rotten first season)

A hundred times better than that disgraceful and boring as **** SG-1 finale Unending.

Excellent final episode and the ending was the best they could do to finish the series. It was the perfect way to say goodbye, and what happens next is open to interpretation.

Bittersweet, but very well played. I've been very impressed with a lot of episodes this season, the last 4 in particular were outstanding.

Big shame.

Unending disgraceful and boring? :| What are you smoking? I thought it was a beautiful ending to the series.
Apparently Moebius was written to work as an ending to the series if they weren't picked up for S9. Now THAT would have been a disgraceful ending to the series.

Beautiful? Watching SG-1 sit around on a spaceship growing old and getting bored of each other's company? ZZZZZZZZzzzzz. It was boring, cheap, sad and the opposite of a fitting end for the series. The resolution was technobabble and it was more or less a giant reset button, they didn't even use the Stargate!

The last few seasons of the show were mostly horrible but Unending took it to a new level.

Full Circle, Lost City, Threads or Reckoning, those would have been fitting finales. The first two in particular.

Lost City was originally supposed to be a finale, until they decided to renew SG-1 and change Atlantis to be in the Pegasus galaxy. Either way, amazing episode, and that would have been great as a finale. Still one of my favourites. Full Circle would also have been a good ending. But Unending to me was just perfect.

But Unending boring? I don't see it. I loved it from the first time I saw it. It's a character episode, not a technology episode. The technobabble resolution was just essentially a wrapper to the episode, so it was done away with quickly, because it was not the focus of the episode. That was clear. It was about the characters. And that to me was one of the strengths of SG-1. The core cast. Contrast that with Enemy At The Gate to finish off SGA, which was nothing but technobabble and gate travel trying to tie up loose ends, and it was not a good ending to the series. Half of the characters did nothing, and it had no heart.

And in that way, Unending was a perfect way to end the series. We got to see the characters in a way we don't usually see them. We see them pushed to the limits, and how they survive with only each other. We see Daniel and Vala deal with their tension, and we see Vala let down her guard that she has kept up since she's been in the show, and become vulnerable.
We see Carter finally meet a problem that is beyond her abilities and we see how she copes with a lifetime where she can take up other pursuits instead of being part of the SGC.
And we see Teal'c strength, even when he has to ultimately live with the knowledge of their lifetimes on this ship, and make a selfless sacrifice to save the rest of the crew. Seeing Teal'c/Christopher Judge genuinely choked up at the end holding back his emotion was one of the great SG-1 moments.

The giant reset button is what let them explore these character moments. It was not used as a cheap way to overcome their problem, because their problem wasn't the focus of the episode. It was a plot device used to show the characters.

I feel Season 8 was by far the worst season of SG-1, but seasons 9 and 10 improve every time I watch them as I appreciate the differences, and the fresh approach to the characters. Unending was all about the characters we had come to know over the past decade, or in the case of the new guys, 2 years. It finished the series with some big changes, such as killing off the Asgard and giving the humans their technology, and didn't try to cram too much in to tie off the loose ends.
Seasons 9 and 10 don't seem to get a lot of love, but each time I watch them, they get better and better, and Unending to me was proof of their strength.

Full Circle, as the name suggests would have made the best finale. Make it two hours, tidy up a few loose ends and up the drama and it would have been the perfect way to finish the series. Especially since IMO from season 7 onwards things went downhill rapidly.

We'll agree to disagree. I'm all about character episodes, if done properly (like Gauntlet, Common Descent and Epilogue in SGU), but Enending just felt lazy. Like it was written and filmed in a couple of days. Bored me to tears and watching these characters grow old and get tired of each other is not what SG-1 is about. Awful finale. A couple of episodes earlier, maybe, but not as a series finale.

Unending, to me at least, was painfully dull to watch, and felt rushed and badly thrown together at the last second.

They got the cancellation notice very late in production, so they had to rework the planned season finale into a series finale on short notice.

That explains why it felt rushed and thrown together then, but they still could have done a far better job

Exactly, the plot itself, the pacing, acting, everything was so dour and sleep inducing.

I thought "Unending" was great. But, that said, I knew the true ending to SG-1 was forthcoming in the DVD movies. Which I loved, too.
