Some things should be seen and not heard ....

For our August challenge, WinstonSmith told us to 'fill in the gaps,' to show us those things of which we'd only heard, or heard intimated, from Star Trek - to reveal the unseen legends and maybe even myths that citizens and officers have taken for granted, and our artists have certainly risen to the occasion!

Feast your eyes on the secrets revealed - remember them well, for you may never see them again! And vote - history may depend on you!

The winner of the challenge will offer our next challenge - like the subjects here, that winner remains to be seen ;).

Oh man, way too many good entries this month, and such a variety of entries, too! It was way too difficult to choose, but in the end I went with BK613. (And Morpheus' entry just made me :guffaw:!)

^ more directly.... we're losing to... toilet paper?

For some reason this line from The Big Lebowski keeps going through my head...

"Nihilists! I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it’s an ethos."

Although I LOVE Morpheus' entry, I'm afraid I too must question its validity in this Challenge according to the original "rules".

I have to say, I picked Morpheus' because its funny and because it had to be there....it was a known unknown. However, also because all the other entries were stuff I have no freaking idea about in terms of canon.

I had an idea for this, but I couldn't be bothered to make it. I was gonna depict the Battle in the Typhon Sector we heard in First Contact but never saw.

^ I disagree... it's well known that since 2245 the toilets were manufactured with built in sonic bidets, which we have never seen, perhaps Morpheus should have gone that route...

I just got off the phone with Mark Omilianowsky, he lived three doors down from Gene Roddenberry during the late '60's and therefore, is an authority on all things Star Trek. I specifically asked him about carrying toilet paper onboard a starship and he said very pointedly to stop calling him, which according to a code I worked out seven years ago when I first started calling him is considered a emphatic "no" to toilet paper.

I also phoned Melanie Watson, she is the niece of Maurice Jackson, the same Maurice Jackson who I believe bumped into Walter "Matt" Jefferies outside a coffee shop in Burbank California in June of 1974. Melanie is known to visit her uncle semi-regularly at a hospice in an undisclosed Chicago suburb. When I asked her about toilet paper use on Enterprise or any other starship, she replied that someone must have put her telephone number on craigslist as a prank. I believe I have been proven correct.

And, I'm not your friend, guy...

The loo roll says STARFLEET command, Enterprise made an explicit mention of "flushing a toilet" and considering they used towels it makes sense for them to use toilet paper as well on early STARFLEET ships.

Check and mate.

And I'm not your guy, buddy....

I learned a long time ago that a funny entry will trump all but the most jaw-droppingly awesome artwork. And I'm okay with that. (It's given me a couple of unforeseen wins. :D) Congrats to Morpheus!
