Filming Process/Video vs. Film

I know that the issues involved in a potential HD release of TNG have been discussed here before, and that we've covered the fact that the live action was shot on 35 mm film but the visual effects were done straight to video. But does anyone have a source on any of that or a link to anyplace that provides the background information on the technical details of TNG's filming and editing?
