In the last Trek, a lot of pride was spoken about in regard to choosing actual present-day locations to shoot on. It added a grittiness and "real-world" kind of feel to the movie.
Sure, but they took it too far. When they filmed the ship yards at an electric substation, I couldn't get past the electrical equipment. When they did the water re-processing scene which would have you believe that half the ship consisted of water filtration tanks, I nearly cried out "Get out of the brewerey!" On the ice planet, I couldn't understand why they had to walk into the facility through a snowed-over outlet mall back door.
Please don't make these mistakes again. Yes,throw in some present day technology to remind us that it's our world, but don't get lazy with it. They're not going to launch space ships from power plants, and we all kknow what a power plant looksl like.
