Filling in plot holes

I don't even care about the "plot" or timeline" issues. My big hangup is much more silly than that. That damn gold arrow powers the spaceship sequence from Robot of Sherwood made me so angry. It pissed me off when watching the leaked version that had the beheading, and it pissed me off even more when the aired version didn't even try and fix such a stupid scene. That scene is on par with the George Cloony "lets throw away physics" sacrafice scene in Gravity. Because of that one scene, I can't stand that movie.

I don't know why it does, but it ruined that episode so much that it is in my top 5 all time worst episodes of Doctor Who. To be fair though, it does contain one of my favorite moments of the season, the scene at the end when they are talking about being stories....that was absolutely fantastic.....but the gold arrow killed it overall.

Treat it as significantly advanced technology that is no different from magic. Imagine they use gold for their power systems. Now imagine them somehow being able to use gold to convert kinetic energy into thrust for their engines. The Doctor, Robin and Clara, deliver a golden arrow with a lot of kinetic energy to the space ship and manage to contact their power grid. It isn't really a lot, but it was "enough" to get them into at least out of the atmosphere before they blew up.
