File sharing between desktops issue

I've recently gotten a second desktop computer to act as a media center. I'm having a bizarre problem sharing files between the two and I'm wondering if anyone might know what might cause this issue.

The computers are:
"Workstation" - HP desktop quad-core, running Windows Vista, Netgear router
"Media" - Custom AMD dual-core, running Windows XP, Netgear wireless USB adapter

I want to be able to pull files from the workstation computer onto the media center computer. I've gotten this working BUT with one strange problem. Files I pull down from the "C" drive of my workstation send at a normal rate (quickly). Files on my "F" drive on that same computer, I can see them but when I go to copy them I get an estimate "7 minutes remaining" "90 minutes remaining" "270 minutes remaining" "560 minutes remaining" etc, and the progress bar does not tick.

Why would I be able to pull files down from "C" on the host computer but not "F"? I've checked the sharing settings, and both seem to be configured in the same way.

Step-by-step what I did on the Vista computer was right-clicked the drive, selected "Share", then "Advanced", then check-marked the "Share" option. I also went under permissions to "Registered Users" and made sure only "Read" was checkmarked. Finally I created an account on the Vista machine for the Media computer to use, and put both computers into the same workgroup.

I'm not sure if this is enough information or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no xp expert, but it sounds like permission is correctly set. This sounds more like network link is clogging when reading from F at the same time as transmitting over the network.

Is F a hard disk partition on the same physical disk as C? If it is a different disk, then how is it connected? IDE or internal USB? If it is the latter that might be the problem if this is using the same USB port as the network adapter.

Try plugging your network adapter into a different port. (and not just a different socket on the same hub). :)
